And thanks for the Frankopan quote.

Hoping against hope that schools that allow unmasked students to endure unfettered interaction of students for 6 hours daily some how get through this dangerous phase …when the outbreaks inevitably do occur and we are back to lock downs , maxed out ICUs, MASH type hospital facilities and endless tales of woe we will have finally learned the cost of intractable stupdity in terms of precious human lives.

We did know that. “Limited government” and “local control” have forever and always meant Jim Crow and punching hippies.

There are abundant stories, from the pre-childhood-vaccine days, of one kid in a family catching something like chicken pox, and the mother then bundling all of the siblings into the same bed with the sick kid, to make sure they all got infected together. That way, the time when she was caring for sick kids would be kept as compact as possible, and they’d all get immunity together (assuming all went well with the recovery, of course, which sometimes it didn’t).

The difference here is that Governor Ducey is using the power of the state to force everyone’s kids into that sick-bed. Because herd immunity, ya know?

“The Party of Limited Government”, yeah riiiiiight.

“How can anyone claim to be a Republican Party member under these circumstances?”

Because they are “the pro life party”.

Or to put another way, to be a Republican you must have two sets of morals and standards, one for yourself and another for everyone else.

Tough competition this year to win the contest for “Stupidest Sate in the Union”.

“Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee ® issued a ban on school mask mandates, joining Florida, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Iowa, and Utah as states that have all prohibited school districts from requiring students and school staff to wear masks.”

They ain’t takin’ to testing, neither.

Well, I gotta pull a latté for Mrs. VH in quantities large enough to make a full grown horse vibrate like a large Tibetan singing bowl.

Later.

Nu uh, don’t be silly. By taxpayers.

Which is to say, not the wealthy tax-avoiding campaign contributors.

Just for contrast, got an update from my school district (school starts sept 1):

  1. All non-unionized staff and volunteers have to be vaccinated. Negotiations with represented staff are ongoing

  2. Everyone on school grounds must wear a mask -staff, students, volunteers

  3. Increased ventilation including as much outdoor air as possible (still trying to figure out protocols for wildfire smoke)

  4. Breakfast and lunch will be free for all students all year.

I don’t know for sure if that last item is paid for with funds from the stimulus bill passed this spring, but I’m not sure how the district would afford it otherwise. Figuring out how to feed kids seems a better use of everyone’s time than punishing schools for mask mandates.

Sorry, I was unclear. I meant that the private schooling and online tutoring would be provided by (companies owned by) the contributors. Wonderful if you can get the governor to “encourage” people to buy your products and services.

All the nominees are worthy, but in the end one competitor stands head and shoulders above the rest.

I posted this quote on another thread: Rep. Greg Stanton, Member of Congress CD09, has alerted Sec. Yellen that Gov. Ducey’s plan appears to violate the American Rescue Plan Act. If Gov. Ducey continues with this reckless plan, he risks AZ losing ARPA funding.

I don’t know the source- it was posted on an Arizona educators facebook group.

Ah, I see. I thought the “provided by” referred to the seven grand, not to the grift services. I withdraw my objection, Yerhonor.

This tug of war over mask mandates will lead to parents pulling their children from the schools either because they fear that their kids will become infected or because they oppose mask mandates. The big losers are the children who face another year of poor Covid era instruction. Also the Republicans are always happy to undermine public education.
