AZ GOPer Who Supported Sketchy Election Audit Now Says It ‘Makes Us Look Like Idiots’

Arizona state Sen. Paul Boyer (R) apparently has regrets about backing his fellow GOP senators’ push for a shady audit of Maricopa County’s 2020 election ballots to boost ex-President Donald Trump and his allies’ bogus conspiracy theories about voter fraud.

I believe the technical legal term he’s searching for is “Definition of Character”.

One hopes that, someday, the definition of Treason gets revised: “giving aid and comfort to our Enemies, including Donald J. Trump.”

This is good. Any movement of MAGA members toward reality should be applauded.

Geez, who could have seen that coming.

The Republican Party of Virginia is holding its primary ballots under armed guard and expects the counting of the instant runoff ballots to take several days.

No such care was taken during the CN Fraudit in Arizona.

When I was a kid I didn’t do rotten kid stuff like steal candy out of stores and so forth not because I was more moral but because I could vividly imagine how it would feel to be caught and get yelled at. Maybe this dude will understand, going forward, that some things have a higher potential ridiculousness quotient than others. Sadder but wiser, right, pal?

It’s interesting that he even came out with his statement. The things happening inside the ‘audit’ must be even crazier than we imagine.

It makes you look like idiots because you are all idiots who flunked Reality 101.

As Shakespeare (I think) said: “Por que no los dos?”

I think sooner rather than later most elected Republican politicians are going to conclude that what you are saying applies to the whole Republican Party:

“It makes us look like idiots,” Boyer told the [New York Times] in an interview published on Sunday. “Looking back, I didn’t think it would be this ridiculous. It’s embarrassing to be a state senator at this point.”

And it suggests they’re more naive, at least some of them, than you’d imagine, because being that naive is sadder and more weird than being a hypocrite who has a rational purpose for this charade. I’m a little surprised myself. Imagine knowing, because you’re part of it, how the election system works, how structured it is and full of safeguards, and then going all in on these stupid rumors and wild claims. I continue to believe they didn’t actually think the wild claims were truly credible and backed up by real evidence so much as they got carried away with a kind of kill-the-ump fervor when they lost.

They looked like idiots at the get go. What’s the premise for this audit? Trump lost. That’s it. In the end the result will be “nobody knows” or “we just don’t know” and there will be no way to find out as the chain of custody and integrity of the ballots will be so fucked. I imagine that was the idea to start.

Or: they’re so locked-in to the belief that no Demon-crap win is legitimate, therefore there MUST have been fraud. (1)
Plus: retain/regain power by whatever means necessary.
(1) There may have been fraud, but I’d wager a six-pack of good beer that it was on behalf of Rethugs.

“Looking back, I didn’t think it would be this ridiculous."

Really? I mean, looking back, when I first heard about it, that’s the first word that came to mind.

Of course “no one could have guessed”. Having Cyber Ninja’s do the bit and ex-insurrectionists too should have raised no red flags.

Ya THINK?

Here’s my question: Would goopers rather go to prison for knowingly committing treason or for being so stupid they can’t recognize what they are doing as treason?
