Grim Look Toward 2028 JD Vance got what he wanted: a bunch of headlines coming out of the GOP midterm convention declaring him Trump’s all-but-assured successor. He achieved this by rolling out his usual schtick as not the second coming of Trump, but something perhaps useful to the movement in a different way: MAGA with…

Surely reasonable minds in the higher reaches of the Republican party will denounce such statements.
Or not.
That violent leftist rhetoric fanning the flames again.
Rated true in light of 2024’s poor D turnout. Here we are.

Your mistake is considering Vance a reasonable mind.
J.D. Vance looks like the Chucky doll grew up and got fat. A delicate pat of butter if there ever was one.
Speaking of forever wars let’s tune-in to the Rethugs culture war.
Nixon, dirty hippies
Reagan, Cadillac welfare queens
Bush 1, Willie Horton
Bush 2, god, guns and gays
trump, all the above plus trans and Islamophobia.
“He achieved this by rolling out his usual schtick as not the second coming of Trump, but something perhaps useful to the movement in a different way: MAGA with an intellectual tinge.” I don’t know about that. It seems to me that you have to be pretty fucking stupid to think that he’s intelligent, or even sounds intelligent.
It’s not like it’s not something the party can’t separate itself from: (ed.)
Or, like it’s not creating a climate where real violence may be attempted:

You can add anyone with chronic illnesses and neurodivergent people, but especially children. When you see your children not as autonomous individuals with hopes and dreams of their own, but instead merely as your property and an extension of yourself, any “imperfection” becomes intolerable.
Big, fat, committed, and ardent fascists give birth to, enable, and encourage newly minted fascists. It is like a virulent disease.
Speaking of voting, the next No Kings Day is not going to be protests. They have something much more effective planned:
For over a year, millions of us have come together to declare that America has no kings. We made our voices heard in the streets, and we made history with the three largest protests in our country’s history.
Now, it’s time to take the next step.
With our democracy at stake, we’re showing up again on October 17 to encourage unprecedented voter participation in the midterms. Previous No Kings mobilizations have already shown the strength and scale of our movement. No Kings: Vote Early is about translating that protest power into a massive wave of voter turnout.
While the regime is actively threatening to sabotage the election and undermine our freedom to vote, we know the best way to protect our rights is to exercise them. So on October 17, we’re organizing thousands of local events across the country to ensure every eligible voter has a plan to vote early, knows their options for how to vote, and is ready to help defend the results.
No Kings: Vote Early will look different than previous mobilizations. Some communities will still have large rallies, but with a new focus on early voting. Other events might look like block parties, cookouts, or a march to the polls.
The message and actions will also be tailored to your local context. Early voting options and starting dates vary by state, but no matter what event you’re joining and what actions make sense for your community, our goal will be the same nationwide: converting the protest power we’ve built together into a massive display of resistance at the polls. Here’s how you can get started:
25 years ago I was — unusually for the time — working from home in the morning. I had Cubs tickets in the afternoon at Wrigley Field. It was a day much like today. Ideal weather in the 70s with bright sunshine.
While I was beginning work, my wife ran into my home office — a desk and chair in our bedroom — and told me a plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. We both thought it was an accident. Shortly afterwards, a second plane hit. We knew it was terrorism. While this was happening, rumors abounded that a hijacked plane was heading towards the Sears Tower in Chicago and there was a hasty evacuation. This was a false rumor, but there were 2 more hijacked planes. One hit the Pentagon near Washington and one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
In the least damaging aspect of it all, the Cubs game was cancelled.
Then the world changed for the worse and we see the impact of that awful day even today.

Surely Trump’s 1-year-old domestic terrorism task force is on the job…
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is coordinating a national strategy to investigate, prosecute, and disrupt entities and individuals engaged in political violence and intimidation designed to suppress lawful activity or obstruct the rule of law…
This political violence emerges from coordinated efforts to isolate and dehumanize specific targets to justify murder or violent action…
A new law enforcement strategy that investigates all participants in these criminal and terroristic conspiracies, including the organized structures, networks, entities, organizations, funding sources, and predicate actions behind them is required.
Yesterday, the Hive was offered a bike trip from Chicago to St. Paul. Here’s an article – with photographs – about a bike trail in Normandy. @darr, I hope you can overcome your hostility to the NYT for trying to get you to subscribe. You’d enjoy the article (free link). Just catching the headline made me think immediately of you.

JD Vance is a puke.
Flatterer.
We were in Tucson. I was getting the kids ready for the day when my husband called from the office. “Turn on the t.v.” he said. “What channel?” I asked. “I don’t think it matters” was his dreadful response and I knew it was something really big.
