KISSIMMEE, Fla. — It’s not a rebrand. But the Moms for Liberty group that introduced itself three years ago as a band of female “joyful warriors” shedding domestic modesty to make raucous public challenges to masks, books and curriculum, is trying to glow up. The group’s national summit this past weekend at a convention center…
I suspect nobody asked the question, “Who wants to return to a time when your husband was a closeted gay man or an abusive alcoholic, you couldn’t get a restraining order or a divorce, open a bank account in your own name, or keep your job after getting pregnant, and you lived in fear that your children would be targeted by sexual predators immune from consequences because they’re reliable Republican voters?”
“You have lost family, you have lost friends, you have lost neighbors, you’ve lost jobs, you’ve lost whole careers,”
Have you now? I got news for you, cookie - guess what’s going to happen when the patriarchy takes over.
“You have lost family, you have lost friends, you have lost neighbors, you’ve lost jobs, you’ve lost whole careers,” … it was vital that they “shake off the shackles of fear and stand for truth or we are going to lose Western civilization as a whole.”
Nothing feeds this righteous indignation like the belief that you’re being persecuted.
I’m certain that nothing will cause Western civilization to fail as surely as gratuitous and recreational legal action.
And if they lost their job and friends, etc, just how are they going to pay a lawyer to file a lawsuit against those that aggrieve them?
The state’s attorney general, James Uthmeier, boasted of having created a state Office of Parental Rights last spring, describing it as “a law firm for parents.”
You have to be a resident of Florida to use it and only if they decide it is a worthy cause.
Funny how these folks want to prevent their rights from being violated are eager to violate the rights of others. Don’t want your kids to read that book? Fine, but what in the hell gives you the right to prevent others from reading it??
For Trumpists, politics is personal. I suggest supporting people like Marc Elias at Democracy Docket and TPM. The closer to grass roots the better.
If their “go to” action is going to be “file lawsuits”, this bespeaks a pretty affluent membership. Folks who can easily send their kids to pricey private schools – and just leave the public schools alone. Or, at worst, have “Moms” stay home and provide the (minimal, Bible-based) teachings that are A-okay with these folks. Again, those for whom public education is irrelevant.
Me? I’m so old that I can recall when parents assumed teachers knew their subjects and how to impart knowledge to the kids at their given grade level. When parents assumed teachers were better versed in a well-rounded education than they were, themselves.
Can we force these people to opt-out of the USA somehow? I hear Greenland is nice this time of year.
Benny Johnson a world class grifter. MOL are too. They are only happy if they are making money while trying to take away the rights of other parents.
They’re really just bad parents spending to much time trying to get attention, so they need the state to do what they can’t
Not at all, they’re looking for vehicle plaintiffs that the donor funded law firms can file lawsuits with
What an interesting collection of Eva Brauns who serve as much purpose as she did in life.
Why do you hate Greenland?
These gals wouldn’t know Western Civilisation if it bit 'em on the ass.
How did they get through this entire article with out mentioning the most famous founding member and 3 way sex enthusiast Bridget Ziegler? She is emblematic of the grosse moral hypocrisy and naked careerism that is at the intersection of religio/conservative activism. Bennie Johnson hosted the event. Does anyone know if Grindr crashed that weekend?
“Hey! Remember when we, the leaders of an offensive movement, told you to be out loud and proud about your brood mare fascism? Sure you lost family, friends, jobs, careers. A small price to pay(by us)”
“Now listen to me now as I tell you to financially ruin yourself even more with badly argued specious lawsuits. Another small price to pay(by…..again..us).”
“Remember! You’re the victim.”
To get in the Halloween spirit and if you think the separation of church and state is important, watch this.
