the militias’ disdain for the federal government is especially strong because they believe it is too big and corrupt
So… elect Republicans???
The conservative movement has brought all this expansion and corruption over 40 years. Power. It’s why they started it, as a counterattack to decades of Democratic rule, which brought a strong middle class, greater individual freedom, a controlled debt, a law-abiding Court.
Now, Republicans are fighting over whether the feds or the states are the supreme authority – or maybe a church or a billionaire. Republican politicians are probably headed toward both states and feds overseeing militia members along with the rest of us.
I believe it will once the opportunities are provided. America needs to support the citizenry first. Legal immigration is great but illegals immigrants provide a labor pool which allows corrupt employers to exploit humans for labor. That needs to stop. Illegal immigrants need to be deported or self-deport if there is no path to citizenship. Sebastian’s parents should be deported.
Onward is great way forward. Choices have consequences.
I believe it will be uphill battle just as it was for UAW workers. Workers must unite & elect representatives who will fight for mandatory minimum wage hike to $20 hr. Instead of being distracted & polarized with “cultural” issues, wokeness & DEI grievances. What matters is a living wage that supports American standard of living. Voters must demand that. The corporations have the money.
Those jobs are pretty much always available, but those with better options don’t want them. If you boot out those willing to take them, there will just be more unfilled menial jobs.
ETA: but in any case, you missed my point entirely - the entire idea of mass deportation is cruel, grossly unfair, and morally repugnant.
I have seen several versions of this over my lifetime and the only thing that happens is a whole bunch of farmers’ crops rot in the fields, and most construction screeches to a halt. Those jobs do not get taken by Americans. And the day that a Republican government forces poultry processors, slaughterhouses, roofing companies and farmers to pay $20 an hour for their workers is never going to come. They’ll shut down first.
They will be taken by Americans when there is not an illegal labor pool. Let them shut down. New businesses will fill the gap left by those with illegal profit margins based on exploiting humans without citizenship. There will still be profit to be made. Right now these poultry processors, slaughterhouses, roofing companies & farmers are just being greedy while government taxes subsidize them.
Rounding up millions of people, including children, like so many cattle, putting them in prison camps and then shipping them off somewhere? That? Why is that cruel, unfair and immoral?
Cruelty is the point. This is not about economics, or national security. It’s about punishing the other.
I think you missed a key word in my response. If Democrats were in charge of Congress and the WH, a higher minimum wage with mandatory hours, wages, and working conditions might be a possibility. With Republicans in charge, the odds of a $20 minimum wage are between zero and none. As it is, there is a not insignificant number of Republicans in Congress and in the various red states that think the current $7.25 federal minimum is too high, and there is more than one red state legislature that has overturned attempts by cities in their states to do better.
Could we please stop calling these organizations militias. Our constitution clearly defines what a militia is in article 1 section 8. These are paramilitary organizations and should be referred to as such.
I agree. I just think we need to prime the pump & drive the message for when we do return to the majority. Democrats must push the message no matter the odds. Just think if that message had been branded to Democrats perhaps fewer working class may have thought we were “coastal elites.” Democrats simply need to do more to break through the noise. We should relentlessly drive the message of Biden’s infrastructure policies & the number of jobs that’s created otherwise GOP will take credit.
And there should be no hesitation to tout the deportation numbers under Clinton, Obama & Biden as higher than Trumps! It is a way to affirm to voters that we heard them & acted! It should be pointed out that not only did Dems act but they did so with humanity. Trump should only be seen for the inhumanity of his execution of deportation. He does it with fear. Dems did it with dignity. The voters need to hear incessantly what Dems did that the electorate wanted & we should be known as the party that stands for workers rights! How dare the unions not endorse Harris! Biden is only POTUS to walk picket line. And yet they dared to abandon Dems.
