Yes but not “all.” There comes a point where performance generates real substance, becomes a fact in the world above and beyond signaling, and perhaps their greatest stupidity was not having any sense where that point was or even that it existed.
There is a real aspect of arrested development in all this except these are adults in positions of power.
There was no mention of violence, so seditious conspiracy is out, but iirc from the Jan 6 charges thus far, there are some “ conspiracy to obstruct us gov” stautes that might do nicely. I am not a lawyer so I don’t know if what we have so far is actually enough overt action furthering the conspiracy, rather than just wishcasting and hyperbole.
While that projection eventually proved correct, other major decision desks were not yet ready to call the state. Biggs messaged Meadows with a plea: “Whatever happens no one can concede.”
This advice seems so quaint considering two years and one failed insurrection later, Trump still hasn’t conceded he lost the election fair and square.
Through the typos, Biggs seemed to be floating a variation of the fake electors scheme, a gambit where Trump allies would put their names to an alternate slate of electors that could be approved by Republican lawmakers in states Biden won.
Frankly, I would be happy if all of these Rethuglican congresscritters who were conspiring with Meadows (and Trump) were referred to the House Ethics Committee for consideration of expulsion from the Congress and criminal charges for Conspiring to commit Sedition. That would solve a great many problems, not the least of which is Qeven McCarthy’s plans to become Speaker of the House. But this must be done before January 3.
I’m posting this comment from @ralph_vonholst because of the reality discussion he raised in the MM. Reading through the texts and the comments that have been made by Republicans from Trump down to the lowest state Republican Rep., their reality is really an illusion/delusion. I mean to the extent this people went and talked, or ranted about the 2020 election outcome…well this isn’t normal. The closest example I can think out is the uber sports fans still talking about a World Series or Super Bowl loss.
I haven’t read everything that each one of these loons as put forth, but I haven’t heard any reality based objection to specific acts that some bad actors committed that threw the 2020 election to Biden.
Which leads me back to Ralph’s comment about confidence and reality. These folks on not on a reality plane that I’m familiar with.
And maybe we libs also worry about Truth, Honor, our fellow American Citizens as well as our Immigrant fellow travelers and ancestors, our Native American forebears, and loyalty to our Constitution and our Fellow Americans of all races, origins, genders, creeds, ethnicities, and belief in respectful political pluralism, and who believe in the dream of the American experiment in liberty.
It seems like the right wing Rethuglican, QAnon, fascist, and oligarch lovers of Trumpism has forgotten about such virtues.
This isn’t quite the smoking gun that Josh touted… Kind of disappointed that he hyped this as a scoop.
Republican political actors theorize that votes don’t matter and that there is a workable Independent State Legislature Theory that was going to make the loser the winner this time because the electoral college wasn’t going to do that for them. The SCOTUS arguments on ISLT last week were more insightful than this.
I can’t overstate how disappointed I am that this was the “big news”. It’s just nearly incomprehensible morons texting each other about how much they don’t understand.
