President Trump on Monday continued dismissing climate change as a cause behind the raging wildfires across several West Coast states by making an absurd suggestion in his attempt to bolster his argument that lack of “forest management” is to blame for the ongoing devastation.
Exploding trees?!? Can they be fended off with a good raking?

Trump: “It’ll start getting cooler. You just watch.”
Crowfoot: “I wish science agreed with you.”
Trump: “I don’t think science knows actually.”

Fires are prevelant in brush (chaparral) and Mediterranean Annual Grassland (introduced grasses from the old world).
I can’t decide if Trump is playing stupid, or is just plain stupid. Trees can explode when fire reaches them. If we rake off all the dead leaves and cut out all the bushes we’ll be 1) taking away nutrients from fungi, nutrients for the tree roots, and bushes provide habitat and protection for small animals.
I would be my life on the fact that Trump has never walked on a forest or woodland. All he knows about maintaining trees is how the have them in parks.
And why in the hell doesn’t anyone ask him what happened to the money to rake the national forests?
Can it be a frozen bottle of water? And what if I promised to recycle it after I’m done?

Putin told Trump that: "“He said we have trees that are more explosive in terms of fire than they have in California, and we don’t have any problems because we manage our forests.”
Is Trump aware that the fires in Siberia are MUCH WORSE than the ones in California?
Vast areas of Siberia burned in the last two years due to Climate Change, it’s just that almost nobody lives there.
The only trees in CA that could possibly, literally “explode” are introduced eucalyptus which are full of flammable resin. But these are not generally components of wildland fires except maybe as windbreaks and horticultural plantings on urban wildland interfaces.
Is that for real? He got this exploding trees bullshit from Putin?
You know, it’s 50 days to go out of four years and I never did get used to having a president as stupid, crazy, and evil as this one. Over on Twitter a Buzzfeed reporter was talking about how burnt out she is, and how everything’s a strain, and everyone was chiming in to say they felt the same way.

trump has lived all his life sheltered from reality. He has no clue about forests, wild fire control or anything science related. He rejects out of hand what he doesn’t understand. And he likes just to make shit up.

I’m in Portland, where the air has been siting at Hazardous levels for about a week. Friends have lost homes, others have had to evacuate. I have asthma. I’m pretty calm most of the time, but right now I want to knock this SOB down, mess his “hair” up and punch him several times. Grrr.
You got it darr, every square inch of Siberia gets raked every fall, before the snows and blizzards sweep thru. I thought everyone knew that.

On top of his regular ignorance, he’s also imposing an Easterner’s ignorance of the types of forests we have, which for the most part are pine, and not dropping leaves on the forest floor like the mixed deciduous Eastern forests. Also, the dry trees that ‘explode’ are vertical, not fallen onto the forest floor.
His donor’s dreams of clearcutting would simply mean fewer trees to supply oxygen and keep the soil in place and piles of trash - branches/bark/underbrush that would burn just as hard and fast.
Let’s also remember there are few forests in So Cal - it’s chaparral that’s burning, what do you rake from under that?
Let’s not buy into the recycled plastics myth any more.
