As Law Enforcement Clamps Down On Protest Sites, Analysts Worry About Isolated Attacks | Talking Points Memo

That made me pause, but there isn’t enough curiosity in this cat to dig there. I’m going to assume you nailed it.

I have no idea what they sing their anthem to, but the “Deutschland Uber Alles” tune was taken from a birthday anthem to Austro-Hungarian Emperor Francis II by Joseph Hadyn who later incorporated it into a string quartet.

Lovely melody later corrupted by association with militaristic Germany.

I doubt the Proudboys have as well developed a taste in music though.

depends on what their goals are, maximum casualties or bringing normal life to a halt. if its normal life, then its going to be electrical transformers, railroads, interstate bridges, water lines. i.e. things that are very hard to guard and fairly safe to attack.

If the FBI spends half the effort they put into disrupting the SDS, Black Panthers, AIM, and Martin Luther King back in the '60s, then these entitled assholes will be a memory in a year.

There are at least two prongs with which to hang our strategy going forward:

(1) Aggressive Law Enforcement, and Intelligence/CounterIntelligence
(2) Alternatives for those who are alienated enough to act like the 6 January rioters

Item (1) is fairly self-explanatory
Item (2), to some extent, depends on what happens to Trump in the next few months, and what we can do to both change our public discourse and provide the “alternatives” I referenced above.

This is think-tank stuff, the types of strategies which will allow our society to function, given the mentalities of those who inhabit this country. It goes without saying that the present degree of polarization-with-a-terrorist-twist is not sustainable for this country going forward.Whatever Democratic person like myself posting on this thread can offer, at this point, is sketchy, but I can guarantee that sharp minds are grappling with this very thing.

The fact of the matter is that a gifted (and heavily supported) con-man was the catalyst for what confronts us today: and it is a social reality just twelve years after we elected the first Black President for the first of two terms.

I’ve been saying this for a couple of days…the smart terrorists should realize that they are being hunted by law enforcement and will start to operate like a piercer insurgency instead of the privileged assholes they have always been. It’s really a question of how they are going to define their targets…a mall in Berkeley or the windmills near Palm Springs are both liberal symbols but vastly different. We may start to see political assassinations at a large level, with Democratic senators a particularly important target. The white supremacists inside of law enforcement and the military are a particularly dangerous challenge, they need to be tracked and ousted.

The real question is how many of these people exist…the true believers are vast and won’t let go of the lies they have been told, but they also may be willing to work within the system to win the next election and get Republicans back on top. Fine and dandy. The danger is the smaller number who are willing to die for the cause, and eager to kill for it…if that’s 2000 people it’s going to be a short revolution, 50,000 will cause a lot of pain, and millions is going to lead to an actual civil war.

The next week is going to be dangerous, but after that things get worse…just imagine a terror strike on a vaccine distribution center and how that will screw up dealing with the pandemic. All kinds of things will be on the table, and we won’t know what’s going on until after the first strike (that wasn’t last week). Waiting for the shoe to drop is never fun.

It’s the dream of the 1960’s all over again! start the revolution and the masses will follow!

But with these exceptions: accelerated by the Federal Government rather than repressed by it; enhanced by Internet communications; ideologically racist rather than anti-racist; massive numbers of heavily armed adherents rather than a small number of small cells of whom few are armed; and largely ignored by government watchdogs (before 1/6/2020) rather than heavily tracked by government agents.
