I mean, that’s an old trick. Along with Iraq vote and Wall Street.
Biden’s record on SS is not good. The facts are the facts.
1984 - proposes Social Security spending freeze (https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/10/biden-proposed-social-security-freeze-in-1984)
1995 - Votes for balanced budget amendment that doesn’t protect SS from cuts
2013 - Leads Obama admin push to strike “grand deal” with GOP that includes chained CPI cuts to SS
Just because you like the guy doesn’t mean you’re entitled to your own reality. Biden has shown time and time again that he’s more than willing to put SS on the table as a bargaining chip.
Pointing out true statements about his positions isn’t a smear.
In Biden’s case, they took a video in which Joe mocked Paul Ryan out of context and said that Biden agreed with Ryan.
Sirota spread it all over Twitter—and got ratioed for it.
Of course! And it’s easy to tell the negative from positive.
Examples:
When Biden says Medicare all is a fraud, that’s sincere criticism.
OTOH
When Sanders says Biden has floated the idea of cutting SS, that’s NEGATIVE!
That’s an awfully fine-grained slice of onion there pal. Biden wanted to push the cuts through, but the GOP wouldn’t sign off because of McConnell. That doesn’t mean he didn’t try his damndest to use SS as the bargaining chip to lure them to the table.
Bernie supports m4a. Critiquing a multi-trillion dollar package that eliminates private insurance for 150 mill people is fair. That’s his proposal. Claiming that Biden supported social security cuts when he didn’t isn’t fair. Berners don’t get the difference but the voters do. Bernie is in real trouble in IA.
Thanks for your comment, I hope that you won’t mind if I cite it in The Hive and attribute it to you.
Welcome to TPM!
I don’t give a shit about some video David Sirota posted. Biden’s receipts re: repeated willingness to cut SS are easily discoverable.
Lying to voters doesn’t do us any favors.
Awesome!
Biden was my 2d to last pick. I didn’t want him to run. I don’t want him to win but I can’t fight the inevitable either.
I think Sanders supporters may refuse to vote if they don’t get what they want. Majorities mean little to them, because they think they own all of the truth.
Joe:
txlawyer, you ain’t seen nuttin yet.
Seriously, after seeing how Democrats are still focused on hating each other, I think it’s Trump’s race to lose.
He won on immigration in 2016…
He’s delivered:
Arrests in the Border Patrol’s Yuma sector nearly hit 14,000 in May, when the policy to make asylum-seekers wait in Mexico took effect there. By October, they fell 94%, to less than 800, and have stayed there since, making Yuma the second-slowest of the agency’s nine sectors on the Mexican border, just ahead of the perennially quiet Big Bend sector in Texas.
Unless someone can prove immigrants are just not getting caught anymore, average people are going to like those numbers.Well, unless they need to hire reliable, cheap labor.
The low unemployment rate and surging stock market are the cherries on top.
Well in fairness, Joe would have been slotted in at no. 3 before Cory Booker dropped out. I’m for Liz, but I completely get the arguments and data about Biden’s electability. If he loses IA and NH, however, that argument is going to take a gigantic hit.
(psst: it that why you resort to smearing as a sexist and a racist a candidate who has significant female and POC support ? )
I mean to say: You know from what you speak when it comes to smears.
Sirota is an official part of Bernie’s campaign.
He did that as part of his campaign job.
Bernie hasn’t disavowed it—meaning he’s okay with it.
Biden has never, ever said he was willing to cut SS benefits.
Ahh no, he said “everybody” but being a woman does make it harder.
It’s not about electability. It’s about our voter base which when it turns out wins us elections. Our base is comprised of African American voters. They are our most loyal voters and they are determined to stick with Joe.
I don’t care what any Sanders’ supporters say about his black voter support - Biden has that sewed up and that isn’t going to change.
Well, you might be right. After all, there’s been a pretty calculated effort to smear him.
You should be proud of your work, in all it’s intellectually dishonest glory.
This cannot be said often enough.
The GOP would adore running against Bernie.
Trump would win 40 states, minimum.
We shall see. I’m of the school that thinks black primary voters are highly pragmatic in who they choose to support. Hillary had overwhelming support among black voters in 2008, and then she didn’t.
One more day of media horse race reporting with little to no emphasis on the issues. It’s like eating popcorn or a box of chocolate, you’re still hungry later because it’s empty calories.
