Maintain the existing social stratification? Is that as close as anyone is going to get to calling then racist?

Gee, if only the leader of this violent and extreme group could be identified and brought to Justice.

I’m calling BS on this. Racism is a part of the violence and anger.

From Ronan Farrow’s interview with the Megaphone Mom:

She told me that she did not share the racist views espoused by some on the far right. (In 2013, she tweeted, “what’s up, my niggas?” Powell defended the use of the N-word, saying, “My favorite book is ‘Gone with the Wind,’ and it uses that term freely.”)

What this really tells us is that the researchers had not noticed that the GOP is exactly the kind of right-wing, extremist, anti-government group they’ve been studying, but much larger than the others.

The GOP has brought together, under one big tent, all the grifters, racist-shit-bags, and chem-trail kooks. Great.

I bet you will find strong commonalities among these people that center on listening to right wing media and watching right wing television.

This. And for years a great many people have been antagonistic and dismissive of the SPLC. Idiots.

:joy: The Payne Stewart Highland Fusiliers?

That picture fascinates me endlessly. The longer you look, the more layers of awful it reveals. It also wouldn’t surprise me if that was actually Ivanka before all the surgery.

I am sort of worried that we prematurely jump to the conclusion that Trump is the cause. I think it is more likely that he exploited fertile ground.

The findings more or less fit with the theory that a crowd that could be persuaded to violence was used as cover by a more organized core more intent on a central mission.
More evidence will be needed to sustain the idea, but I don’t see that these findings contradict it.

One of the rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 is asking a federal court to let her leave the country so she can make the most of a Mexican vacation she booked prior to the insurrection. In a court filing on Monday, Jenny Cudd’s attorneys said their client ”planned and prepaid for a weekend retreat with her employees” in Riviera Maya, Mexico, later this month and would like to attend. Cudd, the owner of a Midland, Texas, flower shop, told the court that the trip is “a work-related bonding retreat for employees and their spouses.”

I am still amazed at the vast sense of entitlement exhibited by many participating in the occupation. Granted, there were a lot of people there with a lot of different agendas, but my sense is that many of them saw the occupation more or less as an extension of the rally. They seemed to think that they could act without consequence, in part because Trump gave them permission and would presumably stand behind their acts. Some of them seemed to be treating it like the MAGA version of Senior Prank Day.

It’s for that reason that I hope to see all of them prosecuted to the full extent of the law. There were clearly groups in the capital that planned and came equipped for violence, and those must pay a heavy penalty, but even those whose acts and intentions were not overtly violent should receive a shocking penalty. For too long, many of those attracted to Trump have felt empowered by his rhetoric. They think the left is weak, and only they have the natural right to political legitimacy. We meed to teach them the error of their ways.

My sense is that the minimum sentence for entry into the Capital should be five years in jail, with enhancements for any overt act of violence. Those who planned and enabled these crimes should also be severely punished, up to and including any member of Trump’s administration or his family. We need to teach the lesson that treason has a price, or we will be doomed to see it repeated.
