Army Veteran Senator Details The Many Ways In Which Hegseth Is 'Unqualified' For Defense Gig

Among other things, mush has promised to finance primary challenges against any Senate Republicans that oppose dump’s nominees, including Hegseth. They may have gotten away with voicing their opposition to Gaetz bc he was so manifestly unqualified and everybody knew that his confirmation would be a media circus to end all media circuses. Gaetz may have even been posted up as the sacrificial lamb to make the other nominees seem reasonable by comparison. Pam Bondi is just as much a toady as Gaetz and will be easily as horrible, but she’ll probably sail through her confirmation.

Yeah, they weren’t actually children. It’s badly named.

Duckworth is wasting her breath.

Russian soldiers were doing it in Ukraine. Sending washing machines back to their wives. Things like that. One of many indications of the Russian army’s lack of professionalism.

Hegseth reminds me of Ollie North. Hotdogger type. Definitely not someone you’d want leading even a platoon. He’s also someone who doesn’t understand what physical strength is (it’s not just muscle bulk) and what physical endurance requires. When I look at photos of WW II soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen (in the Army then, so soldiers), I’m often struck by how physically slight many of them were by today’s standards. Yet somehow they managed. Most of all, Hegseth overestimates the importance of physical strength and size, beyond a necessary threshold, for either combat or, esp., leadership roles (including in combat). In 2017, 18% of the commissioned officers in our military were women. In 2022, over 20%. (Perhaps surprisingly, the Air Force has the highest percentage of female commissioned officers.) Overall, in 2022 women constituted 17.5% of active military personnel.

So, sure, just remove women from any possible combat role, esp. when military recruitment is in dire straits.

So is Mush going to finance primaries against Republicans who opposed Gaetz? If so, at least the four who announced their opposition privately might as well vote their consciences.

Saw his remarks about “DEI hires”. That’s a code phrase used by people who can’t understand why one of “those people” has a better job than they do.
Gotta’ think that after Hegseth gets his fangs into the military that we’ll lose the women, minorities and a few other folks which will leave the armed forces with a bunch of right-wing patriots who want to rough up anybody who is different and don’t want to be told what to do.

Maybe I didn’t I didn’t state it clearly enough. Gaetz was odious and unfit enough that he is their free pass. No additional opposition to dump’s nominees will be tolerated.

Trump likes watching Hegseth on TV. Trump doesn’t read. I wonder if he knows or cares about the guano-level Crusaderism.

Regarding that linked Politico piece on the letter from Trump’s alleged assassin:

His points are pretty rational, surprisingly.

And yet I’m disappointed that he didn’t claim to be sent from the future.

Possibly. Possibly not.

Legislative leaders sometimes allow a legislator to vote their tdistrict when it doesn’t affect the outcome. Doubtful that Trump wanted to provide an example of being defied.

Hegseth is as bad or worse than Gaetz both as fit for the position and as to how he treats women sexually. Rape using roofies and sex with a then willing 17 year old are both appalling.

So we should just roll over and accept our fate?

Exactly!

Native American, I presume?

And those were just the Americans! Look at the British soldiers, and to an even greater extent, the Japanese!

Which suggests that he is pretty ignorant about the Crusades, or else endorses imperial/religious wars.

Indeed. Of course, some of that was due to the poor diets, especially during the Depression, that many who were young men in 1942 had grown up on. But other people simply ate less sugar and fats and ultra-processed food. They exercised in ways that didn’t bulk up muscles (or sculpt them) but still made them strong and healthy. People walked more. Hiking was popular. There were more people who made their living on farms or doing other kinds of physical labor.

No she’s not.

Opposition must be voiced, whether it succeeds or not. Voiced repeatedly, voiced until people start to hear.

If you say nothing, you can’t complain later when everything goes wrong.
