They had been fed a carefully-controlled diet to direct and manipulate the angst and id, but Trump turned all the dials up to 11 and they realized (to some extent) that the GOP had been holding out on them. Though by the end of 2020, even pure Trump was getting a bit light for what they craved. They need the dial to go to 12 or they’re done.
