Originally published at: Appeals Court Prevents Trump Administration from Messing with Mail-In Voting Before Midterms
A First Circuit Court of Appeals panel upheld a lower court ruling Sunday that blocks the federal government from overhauling mail-in ballots and assembling citizenship lists for the 2026 midterms. It was the latest rebuke for President Donald Trump’s effort to exert control over the midterms via executive order, keeping on hold a directive he…
If the Supreme Court followed its own guidance with any consistency, the Purcell principle — which prevents courts from changing voting procedures close to elections — would have some heft here, as the administration is demanding enormous and ill-defined changes when the midterms are already underway in many states. In recent years, though, the Roberts Court has tended to invoke or ignore Purcell in accordance with Republican preferences.
This paragraph embodies exactly why the Supreme Court needs to be reformed. It should never belong to a political party regardless of how many fishing trips and vacation homes the Federalist billionaires hand out.
Go away trump and take yer loss as a grown up for once
After MAIL IN VOTING in the primaries…but then he is SO busy and important ripping up DC that he HAS to do it.
I wouldn’t bet the farm on a favorable ruling for the rule of law on this one.
The First Felon will find a way to get what he wants. He typically does.
If it is unconstitutional six ways to Sunday, you can bet Gorsuch and Alito are already brainstorming some new “principles” they can use to protect Trump’s pasty backside.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a rapist doesn’t understand the word ‘no.’
To use the words “followed its own guidance with any consistency” and the Calvinball 6™ in the same sentence is a logical absurdity.
In a solo opinion on the Trump administration’s quest to cut National Institutes of Health research grants, she wrote that in the court’s version of Calvinball, “this Administration always wins.”
The 6 will find a reason to overide their previous decision and give the Orange POS what he wants. They do it 80% of the time.
I don’t believe they will in this case, at least on the Purcell side of things. To give a green light to the mayhem that ruling on Trump’s side would produce at this late date would so discredit the court that even this court would refrain.
Or, they could just go for it since they already are discredited…we all know the Supreme Six are GOP operatives masquerading as Supreme Court Justices.
