The attempted Republican coup was in fact a heroic moment for key Republicans (and potential presidents) like Mike Pence. Where was Biden in all of this? How did Pelosi let this happen on her watch? How come Democrats have been silent on all of this ever since? What are they hiding?

I seem to recall something along the lines of authority or chain of command, but you’re right. For such a key element of the story, there’s been a lot of repetition of the “Pence on the phone” part, but not so much about what happened after he hung up.

This is a criminal failure and most likely was intentional. Miller was doing exactly what Trump wanted him to do when he put him in the role of acting Secretary of Defense. The entire cabal that allowed the insurrection to continue for hours should be prosecuted. Those still in military service should be drummed out and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. None of them fulfilled his oath to the Constitution.

I know we all want every official held responsible. What is also really eating at me, 6 months after the election, is 75 million people walking around this country still flogging dead lies and daily living out their false reality. I have to go to a funeral later this week for a huge extended family of Trumpists, many who refuse to get vaccines or follow any guidelines. Rural Michigan is exploding with COVID again, and rural Wisconsin here isn’t much different. NOW they disavow the lies of the election and say they’re sorry for believing Chump. My guess that only lasts while they are facing judges, and evaporates quickly.
The point is…consequences. Those 75 million people still live without paying any price for the mire they have wallowed in all these years. They still run around denying evolution, climate change, science, medicine, vaccines. Even open Treason, comes with no penalty unless hauled before a court. Then they become a bit contrite, and it is probably only for that short time. Once back in the bosom of their cult, and surrounded by people telling them they got a raw deal…all the old ways fall back into place.
You need to lose jobs, be kicked out by your church, have people refuse to deal with you and your family. Refuse to allow their kids to socialize with yours, refuse to let their family be endangered by your medical stoopidity, refuse to patronize your business. What is so sickening is that these people aren’t espousing just a different set of values on a spectrum, they are embracing utter lies and unreality. We aren’t going to make it another decade when half the population will not countenance reality.
