AP Apologizes For Highlighting Jefferson Davis Quote In ‘Today In History’ Series

Here is my problem with all of this,

“Never be haughty to the humble; never be humble to the haughty,” is actually good advice. Does it matter who said it?

I mean had the AP posted a quote that made Davis look like a traitor who led a rebellion in what would be the greatest blood letting in American history in order to keep other Americans in chains, would that be acceptable?

Or is the problem that the quote is actually good advice? If that is the problem, the quote makes Davis look other than the evil traitor he was, the problem is not with the AP but with the American educational and political system for not teaching America that Davis was a traitor. That is Adolph Hitler likely said somethings that are not evil. I don’t think anyone would object to quotes from Hitler that a good person could actually agree with because we all know Hitler was evil regardless of a few sensible words.

So in my view this whole fuss says more about the failure of American institutions, including the mainstream media which has always had a soft spot for racists and traitors, for not educating America as to who Davis was so that publishing his making a sensible comment does not change the perception of Davis from being who he was, a traitor who tried to destroy America so at to advance the cause of human slavery.

I’m sure he used the synonym for haughty, uppity. His defenders sure like that one.

We don’t all seem to know that Hitler was evil. And even if Hitler did say some things that were not evil, that is used as the wedge to pry open discussions of the merits of Hitler. You can’t forget, but all discussion needs to be couched with clear understandings that on whole the individual making the comment was evil. Stopped clocks are right 2 times a day.

My personal opinion is that relying on TV news reporting for the full story is very lazy. Joe saying something, Kudlow saying something, it’s only feeding the 24/7 news machine, say stupid one day, send regrets the next.

Not an accident. At this point, nothing can be called an accident anymore.

"AP is appalled that the Davis quote was distributed. It should never have happened,”

Well, now that’s two lies the Associated Whore has told.

I’ve attempted many times to contact them via seance but can’t get past the sound of crackling flames.

Kafka-esque. We sure this isn;t the Onion?

Ah, but the implicit next line is, “Always be a violent racist, slaveholder traitor.”

The Onion is America’s most trusted news source, and wouldn’t dare make such a rookie mistake.

That and the shortage of mint juleps.

Anything vapid or anodyne that Hitler or Davis came up with, there is a less abhorrent person to be found to have produced something no less banal.

Couldn’t agree more. The Full Story is an endangered species!

That’s why I come here, among others, people are always providing nice links to other news sources.

Why pray tell do they need to apologize? I fail to see the scandal. Jefferson Davis is a historical figure, he said a quotable quote and… it was his birthday.

Rather seems like massive over-reaction. Bad people existed in history, white washing them doesn’t solve anything at all.

We are a curious bunch, and I know I find links to sites I didn’t even know existed but are invaluable. Mainstream media works very well, but it’s the mavericks who surprise you so often.

I agree, but there sure are a lot of quotes from Thomas Jefferson floating around too.

What would you ask them once you made mediumistic contact?
