AOC Reveals She Is A Sexual Assault Survivor As She Recalls Trauma Of Capitol Attack

Yep, and that’s how it always goes. There’s a reason these men were looking for Pelosi and AOC. There’s a reason those militia clowns targeted Whitmer first and why out of all the governors who’ve instituted similar restrictions she seems to have been the target for the most rage. It’s why the rubes still chant “Lock her up” at Trump rallies. These men can to a degree tolerate other men exercising power over them but they lose their shit at a thought of a woman doing so. And rape is about violently asserting power over another.

and if only districts weren’t so gerrymandered in Texas, Chip Roy would have been replaced with Wendy Davis.

The Mary Turner lynching always sticks in my mind. It was one of most brutal lynchings I’ve read about.

“The Framers of the Constitution feared a President who would corrupt his office by sparing ‘no efforts or means whatever to get himself reelected,’” the House Democrats wrote. “They were well aware of the danger posed by opportunists who incited mobs to violence for political gain. They drafted the Constitution to avoid such thuggery, which they associated with ‘the threat of civil disorder and the early assumption of power by a dictator.’”

They added: “If provoking an insurrectionary riot against a Joint Session of Congress after losing an election is not an impeachable offense, it is hard to imagine what would be.”

Also, just for today I wish TPM would cover world affairs because Navalny is being sent to prison for two years.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) demanded the Democrat “immediately apologize” for the remark

Chip Roy getting his alternate facts straight:

OMG, so that’s what happened, I feel really badly for her for going through this.

Every year at the government agency I work at I have to attend the required active shooter class. It’s now called incident response class so it encompasses various emergencies. The instructor was firearms certified yet he instructed us in a situation to bar the door with a chair or table and duck under a desk or table. He also said that a fire extinguisher is a mighty effective weapon to be wielded against an intruder. These congress members were obviously trained how to correctly handle the situation.

I can’t get the thought out of my head: What if they had hogtied Nancy Pelosi and dragged her outside onto the stairs of the Capitol and beaten her to death in the public view? So many men hate the very thought of women exercising power, having status, playing important roles. We have to unspool the tapes playing in so many of our collective male crania since childhood.

I’m waiting for John Kelly to call Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a liar in 3, 2, 1…

Yes but it was his JOB to protect her. He is supposed to be trained to withstand the pressure. He wasn’t a volunteer.

If I needed to run for protection from a House member, there’s three people I’d try to find: (1) Rep. Jason Crowe (Army Ranger), (2) Rep. Colin Allred (TN Titans), and (3) Rep. Katie Porter (all-around bad ass).

I’m sure there are more stories like this, like Rep Crowe from CO instructing people how to use their masks and other stuff (he’s a vet from Afghanistan). I suspect we’ll start to hear them over time, and books will be written that interview the staff about what happened. There are definitely people who were really looking out for others as the Capitol was invaded, and not just members of their one party.

And then there are the five Republicans who refused to wear masks…I doubt there are many, if any, Democrats who pulled a stunt like that during the insurrection, but there are definitely more Republicans who didn’t give a hoot past saving their own skin and living their own selfish lives. The difference between the two parties in Congress isn’t just policy, it’s in their moral fiber and beliefs…there is just something wrong with way too many Republicans in Congress right now.

That was her reaction…and, considering that there were police and military people among the protestors it’s a very valid one. This does sound like a guy who was under immense pressure and trying to move asses into safe places…and he knew that she was a prime target and in danger, especially if she was hiding in her office. Adrenalin was definitely going, and that can make it hard to be calm, for both of them.

Now, if it actually was someone trying to direct her to the mob, if it was one of the bad guys portraying an officer, then we’re lucky she’s still alive…I have no doubt that she would have been killed by someone in that crowd if they got ahold of her. She doesn’t either. Hopefully they can figure out who it was at some point, it would be good to know either way.

Vets say cats aren’t “supposed” to throw up. Name one cat ever who didn’t/doesn’t throw up at least once a month, if not once a week.

Was so glad to hear AOC say, on her Instagram Live, that demanding an apology is the language of an abuser. Because it is, and that’s what the GOP is – a mob of abusers. They have no ideology, and their policies don’t even rise to the level of mere political differences with the Democrats. They are nothing but hateful. They enjoy causing and profiting off human misery. And it’s long past time they were denounced as a whole.

One point Porter made with Lawrence last night was that the Capitol Police evacuated the Reps and staff from the Cannon Office Building, but didn’t tell them where to go to be safe. So they were left to run to their friends who have offices in different buildings, like AOC to Porter.

AOC was justifiably terrified during the ordeal in the Capitol, of course, and it makes sense that it triggered memories of episodes of sexual abuse.

She wasn’t to blame for the abuse and she wasn’t to blame for revealing something in a moment of honesty, but I wish she hadn’t revealed this detail at this particular time. Now Ted Cruz and Tucker Carlson can howl about how AOC is accusing them of sexual assault. Saying they use the language of abusers is one thing, but the overtones of sexual abuse make it something else.

The governor of Michigan was not, in fact, kidnapped and raped, Nancy Pelosi was not hogtied and murdered on the steps of the Capitol, and AOC was not sexually assaulted during the Capitol siege. Some people may have had these things in their minds, but they didn’t actually happen, and the Dems should be the last ones prosecuting anyone for thoughtcrime.

I have no doubt the perpetrators of the horrors that did occur are capable of the worst things we can imagine, but the things that did happen are bad enough, and we should be able to dismantle the Republicans with the facts, as we saw in the last week, with Cruz getting his ass handed to him on Twitter.

All I’m saying, really, is, stick to the facts.

I guess it was on O’Donnell’s show last night that he was talking to Rep. Porter and she talked about Rep. Ocasio-Cortez from that day. Ms. Porter is simply incredibly direct and no nonsense, yet compassionate and warm hearted, but don’t mess with her coz she will fillet you like a Japanese Sushi Master(?).

And I am not ashamed to say I teared up when she told Lawrence what Alexandra said to her.

Men, we aren’t all bad, and we aren’t all bad all the time, but a lot of men really suck pondwater.
