AOC Recalls ‘Traumatizing’ Experience Of Being ‘Nearly Assassinated’ During Capitol Riots

They were all told not to tweet out any such information. And as far as i am aware, she is the only one to do so. Just a random occurrence that the QANON person who says she is part of the militia and hangs out with white supremist is the one to give out the speakers movement? And that was just what she publicly tweeted out, she should be investigated for any other coordination.

Who the hell thinks of tweeting anything but “For God’s sake send help!!” during a terrorist invasion?

I wonder if anyone in one of the Towers on 9/11, after they were hit, was texting cookie recipes to their Aunt?

hahahahaha! Gone back to headquarters. It’s a long way down.

A number of them were tweeting about going into lockdown, posts of the armed guards at the doors, etc.

The revolution may not be televised, but it’s definitely being live-blogged.

Ok, I’m a naive Canadian who hasn’t seen a gun since living for a while in Israel, 20 years ago. Do you really think it’s wise to arm ones self? I have read gun sales are way up in the last week. The report mentioned that it’s across the political spectrum.

I’m not sure anyone wins if guns are the solution.

The pictures we’ve seen so far don’t show hand or long guns. However, according to the AG, there are weapons charges being readied. There are also reports of a number of loaded weapons being carried into the Capitol. If these charges and reports are true, combined with the zip tie guys and frenzied hatred that the right has for the Squad, I think I’ll trust AOC’s reading of the situation.

“(Jan. 6) was an extremely traumatizing event and it is not an exaggeration to say that many many members of the House were nearly assassinated. It’s just not an exaggeration to say that at all,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “We were very lucky that things happened within certain minutes that allowed members to escape the House floor unharmed. But many of us narrowly escaped death.”

But we need to move forward now. Calls for impeachment are just sowing division. Peace, love, and understanding for our fellow Republicans.

Literally like a week prior to this insurrection Meghan was bleating about how we need to understand the Trump voters, (oh yeah and that she had a difficult but extra long maternity leave, and really wouldn’t it be nice if all woman had the same access).
She has consistently been drumming the right wing grievance tune including the violent posturing, like her daring people/the Gov(?) to come and try taking away her guns. The whiny fast talking filibustery garbage that comes out of her mouth is like nails on a chalkboard. Another golden spooned narcissist who doesn’t know jack about anything real people have to deal with being beamed into millions of homes on a regular basis to ensure people forget about their real solvable problems and focus instead on vapid made up slights against conservatives and to fearmonger about BLM and Antifi. The only thing she should be broadcasting is a heartfelt apology to America, and her intention to go away and spend more time with her family.

I agree there was imminent peril. I was reacting to “nearly assassinated”, as opposed to AOC’s own words “We were very lucky that things happened within certain minutes that allowed members to escape the House floor unharmed. But many of us narrowly escaped death.

Perhaps just nitpicky semantics, so I’ll leave it at that.

Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) said he was armed with a gun during the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill by supporters of President Donald Trump, many of whom came from a rally where Cawthorn spoke earlier in the day.

Speaking to the Smoky Mountain News a day after the violence, Cawthorn said he was on the House floor when lawmakers were notified to evacuate as a mob of Trump supporters began to pour into the Capitol.

“Fortunately, I was armed, so we would have been able to protect ourselves,” Cawthorn told the publication.

A spokesperson for the first-term lawmaker also confirmed to HuffPost that Cawthorn was carrying a gun the day of the siege.

“It’s Congressman Cawthorn’s general posture to practice his 2nd Amendment rights, as well as the rights afforded to him as a member of Congress,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.

A 1967 regulation exempts members of Congress from a federal law banning firearms on the Capitol grounds, though the weapons are still banned on the House floor. It’s unclear if Cawthorn had his gun on the floor, and Capitol Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from HuffPost.

I have been watching the “debate” on the upcoming 2rn impeachment of trump
Democrat commentary is reasoned and fact based
Republican commentary is almost all unreasoning idiocy and denial of what they went thru s week ago hiding from a pro-trump mob that would have killed any member they got hold of.

For me the divide is expected and I still cannot understand why any sane individual can deny that trump is a clear and present danger to all of us everywhere. I wish more Goober had the spine Liz Cheney has shown. And I cannot believe I agree with her but I do on the need to get rid of trump… short termer or not.

The picture of the zip-tie guy clearly shows a gun on his right hip and probably ammo magazines in his vest pockets.

AOC saw well enough that they were terrified of becoming Cinna the Poet.

Just a quick reminder. This thing that some folks like to do, minimize the violence experienced by other people as ‘dramatic’ or ‘overblown’…it’s one of the multiple ways that society minimizes violence and allows it to continue and worsen. Its how the way gets paved for fines and stern talking to instead of jail time and removal from office. If you are one of the people wanting to help this country move forward, try to resist the instinct to “feel comfortable” by assuring your self it can’t be as bad as they’re saying it is/these politicians are being overly emotional. Please. We all do it to varying degrees but responsible adults need to behave better than that.

Sort of like the arguments presented in court about voter fraud?

So an ally of the insurrectionists carried a pistol onto the House floor on the day of the insurrection to “protect ourselves?” Perhaps he was going to protect We the People from the treachery of a few Dems had the mob made it into the chamber in time to give him cover.

Depending on which zip-tie guy you’re talking about one of them had a taser in a holster on his hip.

Supposedly, that’s a tazer on his hip.
