Meritocracy is a contorted word by any stretch but in its best form at least theoretically gets qualified people in positions of responsibilty. Of course those qualified people were lucky enought to be born with higher IQ, probably had other advantages, basically luck, and they didn`t create or merit that.
But the trumpian kleptocracy has nothing to do with merit.
You can be as snarky as you want (and clearly you WANT all the time) but Chelsea Clinton a) was qualified and b) was ALSO paid for name recognition…sluff it off to ‘advertising’. Ivanka Trump is standing on the world stage as a DIPLOMAT, unelected, unqualified and embarrassing.
I didn’t say Ivanka shouldn’t be criticized, I am saying that the major focus should be on the President and the weakness he displays by the constant need for his binky. Ivanka is not running for President in 2020. AOC knows how to get under Trump’s skin and her tweets get a ton of play. I’m suggesting AOC missed a more promising line of attack by choosing Ivanka instead of the Dotard. That, in itself, is not a big deal, the Dotard will provide more opportunities today and tomorrow.
I wasn’t aware of Chelsea Clinton’s journalistic qualifications. What are they?
If that name hadn’t been connected to American royalty, she could have expected to rake in between $100,000 and $200,000 as a first-year network correspondent, a job that people from less-high-profile families snare only through years and years of tireless work covering the news. That salary range is confirmed by several people familiar with the compensation levels at major network news outlets.
“I’m sure that that salary figure is going to make other NBC correspondents’ heads spin right off their shoulders,” says one of those sources.
She has degrees from Stanford, Oxford and Columbia. She has written books, traveled extensively and worked tirelessly. Evidently, you seem to think she needed a journalism degree or she wasn’t qualified. Take a peek inside ANY newsroom and check their ‘credentials’. For this JOB both sides received something. For Ivanka she was given a world stage and it is undeserved.
That doesn’t change the fact that she was paid an amount completely out of line with her resume, based solely on her being in a powerful political family. As AOC said “Being someone’s daughter isn’t a career qualification”.
imo, the best dem communicator is adam schiff. he breaks complex issues down to the meat and potatoes, gives relevant examples, answers questions directly, and all without stepping on his dick.
I understand, but my concern is that by not shining a spotlight on Jared and Ivanka et al, and the monies that they are lining their bank accounts with, their corruption is being ignored. Drumpf is a despicable liar. Jared and Ivanka are touted as the fresh young innocent competent faces of this administration. The go to problem solvers. The connection to the X,Y,Z generations. Bollocks. They are incompetent selfish grifters who do more harm than good, and IMHO should be called out each and every time. American tax monies go to pay for her presence at these events. Her uselessness and Drumpf’s bizarre and creepy s dependency on her should be called out each and every time.
Nah. It’s the same dynamic. You just prefer not to see it. Media giants trying to curry favor with powerful political families has been going on a LONG time.
He has great talent in that department. However, he has diminished his own value by constantly pointing out impeachable acts but not advocating for impeachment.
It is easy to see why Nancy Pelosi is doing everything she can to stop primary challengers to her incumbent patsies. She can’t bear anymore AOCs pointing out stuff like this, particularly when Pelosi knows from her own experience that “being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification.”
