A cringe video Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) posted on Twitter was removed and Greene was temporarily locked out of her account after rapper Dr. Dre, also known as Andre Young, took legal action against the Republican for using one of his biggest hits without his permission.
“Mr. Young has not, and will never, grant you permission to broadcast or disseminate any of his music,” the letter read. “One might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country. It’s possible, though, that laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist for you to really have spent much time on.”
“We’re writing because we think an actual lawmaker should be making laws not breaking laws, especially those embodied in the constitution by the founding fathers,” the letter continued.
That’s a mighty fine slap to the haid right there.
She had all afternoon for a comeback and that was the best she could produce, which is pathetic. So, she resorted back to the old standby of dog whistles that the base could understand.
Not sure why this is a story. The GQP has only a passing relationship to copyright laws, as has been demonstrated time and again over the last few years.
Other than her account being shut down, nothing more will happen with this.
BTW, where on the docket is the reading of the Constitution to open this session of Congress?
So, Margie Spork Foot is AGAINST the message in Dr. Dre’s music, but will use it to promote herself. I guess she has no lawyers on her staff, OR all her staffers are a bunch of newbies desperate to get a foot in the door (and no one with any sort of Hill experience WANTS to work for Margie).
TPM’s beat is Washington politics and policy. They are the absolute standard-bearer in terms of connecting the dots regarding MAGAt treachery, Trump crime, and international geopolitics. MTG is–appallingly–a power broker in the newly-supine Qevin speakership.
Yes, this is a story. A citizen like Dre slapping down a traitor like MTG is absolutely pertinent and within TPM’s mandate.
The GOP agenda (cutting established benefits and services to those who have depended on them for decades) guarantees that whatever admiration goes to Greene (from 30% of the Republican Party) is more than reversed by the loathing held by everyone else.
And that’s before we get into Mean Girl Versus Opponent territory
