“If it was back in the day, when Alan Marston would take a damned Black guy and whoop their ass and throw him in the cell? I’d run for fucking sheriff,” District 2 Commissioner Mark Jennings said, according to the McCurtain Gazette News, a print-only local publication that was first to report on the audio.
I hope the FBI looks into any missing or murdered black people from 1980 (that’s when Alan Marston was Sherriff in this county).
From the story, the younger reporter Chris was FOIA’ing records on the death of a Choctaw Nation man after a ‘police encounter.’
You wanna bet a nickel that the sheriff (after the voices are authenticated as being the people already named) claims it was just ‘locker-room, boastful talk’ and nobody ever meant what they were saying, why some of their best friends are black! And they all have subscriptions to the newspaper so that proves they ‘support’ local journalism!
Maybe “just talk,” but if someone in the group took it as an invitation to murder, it wouldn’t be the first time. In any rational community, these people would be removed from office.
I wouldn’t expect that in the reddest state in the Union.
Recall the 3 civil rights workers lynched in MS in 1964 (?). The local sheriff’s deputies were complicit in this. Film “Mississippi Burning” was based on this case.
Oh yes, and Saint Ronnie made his first campaign speech in the town where this occurred in MS. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. More “Southern strategy” I presume.
I’m afraid that the ignorant racism is happening against a backdrop of lead poisoning and fetal alcohol, etc. it’s really hard to know how to be able to reach these folks with some sense.
“He complained that his office had received a “large number” of violent threats since the transcript hit the news. He does not, however, directly dispute or clarify what can be heard in the recordings.”
Good. These racist, fascist pigs should be running for their lives.
As the parent of a non-binary kid, I’m not visiting any states where they may have reason to feel unsafe. That includes Florida where my brother lives. Last I checked, Abbott won by double-digits and DeSantis won by an even greater margin.
While there are good people in these states, the majority voted for shitty people. That’s enough to make me fear for the safety of women and LGBTQ folks in these states.
Hear me out: Maybe, maybe, instead of arresting these folks, we could just… I don’t know… nail ‘em all to the side of a barn, and then set the barn on fire. I mean just to keep the community safe. To encourage other folks like them to stay in their place, is all I’m sayin’.
I’ve been to that area of the country, and they are fine people outside the typical racism that has served the GOP for over 100 years. All the radio down there is owned by the church, the papers by the same few local sons of slaveholders. It’s a crying shame the country isn’t opened to more people, or that more people don’t think to get out there and see it.
After Trump, though, I won’t be trying to look like anything less than the reddest of necks if I am going through there. These people have been weaponized, that is all there is to it.
Madison Peavy hopes this revelation will lead to authorities investigating more cases, including her missing father and mysterious death of her friend.
“I am thrilled this is coming to the surface finally. This has been a long time coming,” said Peavy.
Commissioner 'Take 'em Down to Mud Creek and Hang ‘em Up with a Damn Rope’ Jennings
At one point, Jennings muses about hiring “two or three hit men” from a Louisiana mafia to assassinate Bruce and Chris Willingham, a father-son journalist duo at the McCurtain Gazette-News who have published reports on the local sheriff’s department that “cast the sheriff’s office in an unfavorable light,” Bruce Willingham told the AP.
If you vote for a Republican you are not a good person. You can’t say “Bob tortures animals, but otherwise he’s a good person.” Or “Bill is a pedophile, but otherwise he’s a good person.” A significant, egregious character flaw overrides any claim to being a good person. Voting Republican is akin to many of the most heinous crimes a person can commit. If a county in Texas voted 72% for Trump, 72% of the voters in that county are detestable reprobates.
In the post [Sheriff Kevin Clardy] claimed to be conducting an investigation into “multiple, significant violation[s] of the Oklahoma Security of Communications Act,” stating that it’s illegal to record conversation that you’re not a part of without at least one participants’ consent.
Chris Willingham: “But I was part of the conversation and I consented to the recording. I guess that I was too far away for the recorder to pick up any of my remarks.”
