Excellent postscript reflecting on Biden’s attempt to reach out to those still wishing to participate in our democratic project.

I think it’s time we start covering Trumpism for what it is now.

No, Ben Collins (whoever you are), the time was seven years ago. Or if you prefer, in 2008.

After months of being called every name in the book by the GQP, including some not repeatable in mixed company, it is high time that the GQP Is called out and treated to a little of its own medicine.

Of course, they’re going to scream. The truth hurts and they’re so far down the rabbit hole they may never get out. Even their own fringe members are beginning to see the light and walk away.

It’s a movement that might appear to be waning, but the worst may be yet to come as their Lord and Master is cornered like the skunk he is.

Good on Joe for calling it out. Every bit of it.

However, did I hear that there was next to no media coverage of the speech, something like C-SPAN only?

This from a guy who brought the military into the situation in front of the church in DC and then refused to call the military during the insurrection.

Is anyone from the media going to point out how TFG tried to commandeer the military?

Is this yet another threat by TFG?

Only thing I disagreed with in Biden’s earlier, off-the-cuff remarks was when he said “semi-fascist.” There’s nothing “semi” about it.

A useful distillation of Umberto Eco’s list of fascist characteristics:

Each fascism pretends to be a unique expression of its own nation’s character and spirit, but they resemble each other more than they are different.

Just as all the 1970s detective shows might have been shown on different networks, filmed by different studios, and had purportedly different locals. But they all had the same plots, the same Hollywood back-lot sets, the same ridiculous low-speed car chases in parking lots, and the same generic, cheesy synthesized theme music.

“Now, I want to be very clear, very clear up front. Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans. Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology. I know, because I’ve been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.”

So it’s confirmed, Biden is a doddering old fool.

Everyone needs to keep one thing paramount when thinking in political terms. Republicans, all of them, are the enemy. They barely rank above the Russians and Chinese in terms of the danger they represent to the nation. And that’s merely by virtue of the fact they are U.S. citizens. They are not to be trusted, on anything, ever. If possible don’t patronize their businesses, don’t count them as friends, don’t let your children associate with theirs. You shun them. And be perfectly clear with them it’s all due to their party affiliation. If they say “Same to you, buddy!” say thank you, it’s much appreciated you share my sentiments, it’ll make it all that much easier for us to avoid each other.

I guess I’ll say this again: I don’t think Biden has any illusions about what the Republican party is now. But the public still thinks there are crazies and then others that are reasonable. Biden was elected in part to make things normal again. He has to acknowledge where people are now to maintain his support, and I think he’s striking that balance pretty well. And again, I beseech everyone, for God’s sake don’t take everything a politician says as a candid and frank expression of his or her own actual views. They say things purposely and it may sometimes or often differ somewhat from their own real, frank, and rarely expressed private thoughts. He saw what happened on January 6 and it put him in a scary cold fury. No illusions. You’re deluded yourself if you think that.

And a reminder, for better or worse whether we like it or not, Biden is POTUS for all Americans, including these nincompoops. Everything he does for us impacts them too.

TFG was POTUS only for him minions. The rest of us could take a flying leap at a rolling donut. We mattered not to him. Only his thirst for power and ability to punish his enemies. Biden is never going to be that, nor any other Dem candidate for the office.
