Amid fierce pushback from his fellow Republicans who are currently focused on feigning support for Social Security and Medicare, and criticism from the White House, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) changed the language of his “Rescue America” plan.
I’ve been trying to understand the social support models suggested in HBO’s The Last of Us and some seem quite close to Scott’s model, and certainly fit well with the gun-rich free-living paradigm of the GOP.
He must have been visited by a ghost.
McConnell you say? I stand by my original statement.
Or
Thank you MTG and the crazy caucus for neutering the Speaker of the House on live TV during the SOU address.
“That’s not a Republican plan. That was the Rick Scott plan,” McConnell said in an interview last week, referring to part of Scott’s proposal that called for all federal legislation to sunset with no exceptions for Social Security and Medicare.
My McConnelish (Turtlease?) is a bit rusty but I think I can translate this:
Of course I want to cut these programs. It has always been our (the GOP’s) plan for decades. I just don’t want anybody to know about it until we once again control all 3 branches of Government.
Suuuuure your “five years til sundown” plan excludes Medicare and Social Security. When your announced primary motivation for “sunsetting” was to get rid of Social Security and Medicare. And we should believe you NOW?
Oh, and it’s Friday and I’m saddened by the lack of cats…
Before even reading the article I want to point out something about right wing Republicans that cause me to want to throw a pie at their faces every time I see them.
I am speaking of that fake smile all of them have. I do not know if there is a Repug school that teaches the smile, but everyone of them has it and every time I see it I want to throw something at it.
Note to President Biden, Sen. Schumer, and Sen. McConnell — As you know, this was never intended to apply to Social Security, Medicare, or the US Navy
Very clever (snark) rhetorical trick: “You people are so stupid you can’t read what was plainly before you, so I’m going to have to deign to clarify it.”
No, Mr. Medicare-fraudster; we can read it, we know exactly what you meant.
Why don’t dems talk about this all the time? It should be repeated often that Skeletor has been caught with his hand in the Medicare cookie jar in the past, stealing money from this critical social safety program for SENIORS. He should be confronted with his past at every opportunity. What on god’s flat earth makes people think that Skeletor’s going to stop stealing now that he has more power and a higher position than when he was an unscrupulous cancer in the business world? He’s telling us and anyone who will listen that he is going to steal your Medicare, grandma!
What I think the biggest program left to cut in order to balance the budget if you remove what Scott says from the article below is subsidies to the agriculture (farmers) in particular and rural life in general.
After reading the article,
" “All federal legislation sunsets in 5 years, with specific exceptions of Social Security, Medicare, national security, veterans benefits, and other essential services. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. Note to President Biden, Sen. Schumer, and Sen. McConnell — As you know, this was never intended to apply to Social Security, Medicare, or the US Navy ,” the proposal now reads, emphasis his."
The only two major programs left are subsidies for farmers in particular and rural life in general (the Republican Party base) and Medicaid which more people are on then Medicare as it applies to not only low income people but the vast majority of people in nursing homes.
Democrats should now start asking Republicans what agricultural subsidies, (American agriculture is the most subsidized industry on the planet) they want to cut. Most will say “food stamps”. Aside from pointing out that more then an aid to the poor food stamps was created and remains above all else huge subsidy to America’s agricultural sector. Furthermore, cutting food stamps would actually increase the deficit as it is the one federal program that reduces the deficit by bringing in more money (tax revenue) through the economic multiplier than is spent on the program. Kind of funny that the one of many big lies Republicans have been spewing for over 40 years about tax cuts reducing the deficit is actually true about food stamps.
But the point is if you are promising to balance the budget in the next 10 years without cutting SS, Medicare, Defense or significantly raising taxes that only leaves Medicare and agriculture subsidies not including food stamps as cutting food stamps would actually increase the deficit but would include general aid to rural life like charging more for mail service, utility bills, roads, schools and many other Government services that are far cheaper to provide per person to millions of people in Chicago then thousands of people in Podunk.
