Abbott Announces Retaliatory Veto After TX Dems Stage Walkout On Restrictive Voting Bill

Federalism demands that we honor the right of Texas and other GOP controlled states to destroy democracy. Besides, they have history circa 1861 on their side.

That was my wife’s reaction.

It’s in the tenth amendment. Or commandment. Or something like that. Pretty sure.

No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities.
Stay tuned.

What about for senators who fuck off to Cancun?

Could TX Dems do some bake sales to help support the legislative staff members? Announce it now, before the Republican, who would never think of this anyway, try to look like the good guys.

Go ahead, Greg, you big baby. Do it. Keep throwing this fit all the way to the election next year.

If they did a GoFundMe, I would support it.

Does anyone think that Greg thought through this action? And besides doesn’t this cut into Dan Patrick’s power?

Abbott didn’t do his duty to protect citizens from Covid and thousands died unnecessarily. He belongs in that wheelchair, he is mentally handicapped from sitting on his brain.

Gov Hotwheels right after the election:

“Democracy depends upon fair and open elections,” Abbott, a Republican, said in a statement Monday. “We all agree that every legal vote counts and that illegal votes do not. There are processes in place in each state to determine if any vote is legal, and we must respect those processes to ensure the integrity of our elections.”

So now, that same Gov Hotwheels is mad that Democrats didn’t want to sit around and be railroaded into accepting anti-democratic legislation that clearly going to be challenged and beaten in court. His response is to take hostages. That’s what Republicans do when they don’t get their way- take hostages.

WHO KNEW he was on our side. If the legislature can’t meet they can’t pass any laws. And the laws TX has been passing lately have been shit… so no new ones is fine with me.

Yeah I am always gratified that the fucking lege only meets every other year. I do not want it meeting any more often. They fuck us every time they meet.

So the Texas lege won’t get paid for the “special session” either? Hmm. I wonder how many will show up now?

@tena Didn’t Molly Ivins say that’s why they only meet every other year?

Abbott has lost his mind. The entire TX state GOP have descended into a fear so all consuming that they will eventually guarantee their own demise. The old “cut off your nose to spite your face” act is at play here.

Those Democratic legislators were fulfilling their responsibilities, not abandoning them.

That’s right. They are doing what we, the Democratic voters who put them there, want them to do.
