Don’t worry baby
Everything will turn out alright
Apropos of nothing,
Someone I know occasionally tells me all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of a relatively small organization with a global footprint. Their job is to manage the board, who are all CEOs or past CEOs of related industries. These board members joust and jockey to see who will replace an outgoing board member or be named chairman for the 2 year tenure but what they spend most of their efforts on is planning for the all-expenses paid travel (multiple trips per year) to the different meetings and sometimes exotic/international locations. Focused almost exclusively on their own personal whims and how ‘red carpet’ their treatment is.
Those weighty problems like complaining about the wine choices for their luxury meals. How to make accommodations so they can take their pocket pooch with them. They aren’t happy with their rooms, please get me a better suite. A favorite shawl or dress somehow didn’t get packed so an emergency shopping trip is needed. Won’t someone come pick them up at the airport, because they don’t want to take the arranged shuttle. They want to upset all the arrangements and fly out earlier or arrive later and can’t get a 1st Class seat on the new flight. They thought it would be wonderful if their daughter could decide to join them for part of the trip, please make it happen (last minute).
The funny part is this is a very liberal organization for the most part. And all these millionaires are pretty good at mouthing the liberal lines they’ve been spouting for years. But behind the scenes, these wealthy people are the most needy and least adult folks in the whole group. 100s of the rank-n-file folks don’t ever complain or make any fuss as they haul themselves and their luggage around the world. The people with the most means and the most money, who should be expert at travel and already have their own assistants, want everyone to drop everything and work for THEM no matter how much their silly, childish problems disrupt the carefully orchestrated conferences and endanger the mission.
The parallels between the personalities of Donald Trump and Jim Jones should not be dismissed.
A magnificent song, with some notably silly lyrics. “She makes me come alive/She makes me want to drive/When she-ee says…”
I’m sorry to hear this sad news. Representative Lee served her constituents with fierce committment and integrity. A true fighter for justice, as well as being a true fighter for us all. May she Rest in Peace and Power.

So the question about Biden has been answered. By him. He’s staying. The inchoate coup attempt by media and party honchos has failed. There will be continued calls for him to leave from random party officials trying to flush Joe Biden out, but these will be ignored, as they should be. It is too late for this, and was a month ago. No one is offering a plan for how this would work. They just want Biden gone. That is jumping out of the plane without a parachute, on the assumption that somebody must have packed one and the landing might be survivable.
Trump and Vance are in Michigan today. Gretchen Whitmer has a few thoughts.
I wish I agreed with you about the media—but they will never stop. Fortunately or unfortunately, they have effectively destroyed Biden’s campaign at this point. Every person in this country has the perception that Biden is too old and feeble to do the job. Whether that’s fair or not, I don’t see how he can turn this tsunami of media bullshit and negative, negative press. It’s not fair, of course - because no one is even listening to the words coming out of his mouth - but we all know what the media want.
My first career was at the National Academy of Sciences where I staffed a board on Science technology and economic policy and I can tell you my experience was exactly opposite. Former CTO of xerox was the nicest guy you could meet. Same with the guy that ran Sandia at the time. Gordon Moore (yes that one) was anti-vip. Wanted to take a cab (not limo) from the airport, wanted to stay at a per diem rate hotel with the speakers at conferences, etc.
Sounds heavenly!
Here is the clip of Pete Buttigieg on Bill Maher that @dicktater posted about. Pete is masterful.

“It’s a fancy way of both closing the door to new immigration, and of rejecting a core feature of the melting pot that characterized America’s development: that immigrants don’t only assimilate, but they bring elements of their own cultures and values into the country, thereby helping to shape a common culture.”
Look, your kitchen smells weird and you talk with a funny accent. You gotta go. Pack your bags!!
I’m pretty sure the Supreme Court has reduced that “three more trials to go” to zero. If any of the cases do go forward they will be reduced to determining whether he is absolutely immune because his actions were within the core constitutional powers of the presidency, or presumptively immune because they were official acts. If a trial judge makes a ruling that is not favorable to Trump it will be appealed to the Supreme Court so it can “refine” its decision by finding the unique circumstances clearly absolve Trump.
The media can suck it. They have not won, and you and everyone of us had better get behind Biden now. Stop acting like we are defeated.
Trump is not subject to our laws. Sooner or later people will get that through their thick skulls. It’s a tough pill to swallow, and denial is an understandable reaction. But it’s true.
He’ll never spend a day in jail. If your definition of falling under our laws is the deprivation of a person’s personal liberty for the commission of a serious crime, then Trump does not fall under our laws. No matter what crime he has committed, or will commit in the future, he’ll never spend time in a State or Federal prison. Mark it.
Last month, Thirsty Gnome made a brief statement then jetted off to TN for a fundraiser.
National Guard wasn’t ‘available’…is that because they were down at the TX border for performative stunts?
“Noem’s press conference made it sound like it wasn’t going to be bad for us,” Speichinger said. “There was no talk of a massive flood coming our way.”
Four hours later, Speichinger and her neighbors were fleeing for their lives, while Noem was at a political fundraiser in Tennessee, having flown out after her press conference in North Sioux City.
I have been on the board of several small, non-profits. It’s a whole different gig. It was hard work, with no pay. If we had a meeting or a get-together, it was usually at the organization’s quarters, and it was pot luck. And, we only travelled locally, in our own transportation.
I agree, the big-time corporate boards that you are talking about certainly exist, and lots of people, well-connected people, have made millions of dollars just by serving on big boards, at the same time, and separately. They have one thing in common. They usually start with government ties and wealth to begin with. Easy life if you can get it. Look at Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnell’s wife. She serves or has served on hundreds of boards, and received several dozen honorary degrees.
Remember The Little Engine That Couldn’t? “I think I can’t! I think I can’t…”
You’re welcome to your opinion on the current state of affairs inside the party, but with respect, I think you’re wrong about “no plan.” There is a very clear plan developing for a smooth transition, with Biden releasing his delegates and endorsing Harris as the candidate.
We don’t know if Biden will step aside. But if he does, it will be on his terms and conditions, because he’s holding all the cards with the primary vote and his delegates.
I can’t imagine any other scenario Biden would accept, other than handing off the torch to Harris this way. He picked her as his designated successor as VP, and anything else would alienate the critical Black vote in the election.
