A Manchin-Sinema Tax Showdown In The Works?

I am really looking forward to not voting for Sinema.

Well a sharply more progressive income tax is, after all, the Keynesian solution to inflationary budget deficits when the economy is near full capacity.

Make no mistake: Manchin will only support something that fucks the middle class right in the ass with tax increases and doesn’t constitute his (and his owners’) definition of “class warfare” against himself and wealthier tax brackets. In fact, the only reason he is talking about anything remotely resembling changing the tax code is so he can hurt Biden by trying to get him to break his promise about not raising taxes on anyone earning less than $400K, turn that promise into something toxic by making it look like Biden is the one who won’t be reasonable and, ultimately, laugh all the way to the bank while zero changes get done to the tax code because the GQP is a guaranteed “NO” and he himself can make sure nothing happens otherwise by just making demands that would be toxic to Biden and the Dems. This isn’t even his idea. He’s being instructed.

Manchin gets nothing until we have a successful vote to reform the filibuster. Nothing. If I were Schumer, at this point I wouldn’t even let Manchin use the Senate cafeteria.

Yes. That would be refreshing, and far less punishing to the party in the public sphere.

Of course there’d still be persistent breathless reports of how much wasn’t included from the original plan, but a solid, smaller bill would represent progress and lend support to a challenging mid-term season.

Conversely, in my opinion, passing nothing at all of the Build Back Better bill is a failure hung around the necks of any Democrat facing reelection.

IMO raising Taxes on the Corporations and the 1% is the solution to many ills. However, this will never fly with almost all of the elected Republicans, which will give cover to those Corporate Democrats who will all vote in favor of raising taxes as long as it has no chance of passing.

Bring back Eisenhower rates, watch the deficit, and hopefully inflation too, disappear.

in reading the piece, i get the impression the writer really doesn’t ‘know’ what he/she is taking about…until it is happening, i don’t see the point in a writer’s hypothical whatevers…maybe, maybe maybe…is it the writer just ginning up some controversey?

We’ve got another bite at the reconciliation apple before the midterms and it would be nice to use it
