I proudly voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 and that had nothing to do with the Supreme Court denying Florida the right to count all the votes, and with other unfortunate events that followed. Nor was my choice the result of a judgment that the two major parties were “the same.” Thank you all the same for your opinion.
At this point it should be clear the nation is facing an organized and increasingly aggressive assault on the democratic (small d) franchise so I don’t think it too farfetched to consider federal or even international intervention. There is some precedent for this here; e.g., International Election Monitors Arrive in the U.S. for the Nov. 3 Poll - Ms. Magazine
She’s a self described "lifelong Republican ". What ye sow so shall ye reap.
Proud of it? Really?
“Hell no, the machines gotta go!”
I have a better idea. If you do not trust the machines, then don’t vote. Stay home for your ideals and the good of the country.
This feels like the “Out, damned spot! out, I say!” stage of the GOP’s existence…somnambulizing toward a tragic end triggered by listening to the siren song of the weird sisters, Bannon, Stone and Miller.
Think about how much money it takes to send barnstormers to every small town and to fund the infrastructure (mailing lists etc) for these loons to coordinate, and to proselytize other people into become loons. Then think that it’s pocket change for right-wing billionaires.
(If you want to get really sad, think how much good that money could do in those communities if used to organize for education, social change and new sustainable businesses.)
This all appears to be a concerted effort and conspiracy to cause US elections to grind to a halt. I hope the DOJ is looking into the coordinated efforts to stop elections from being conducted fairly. At the hazard of seeming paranoid, this sort of conspiracy would be just the thing that a foreign and domestic enemies of the US Constitution would use to cause great damage to US institutions and related competencies…
Oh, they want elections, but in the way that the Soviet Union had elections: everyone is required to vote, and everyone votes for the one slate of candidates. Hey, presto! Look how much everyone just loves, loves, loves these candidates! Look at how much they love, love, love the Party!
Basically, the Southern worldview (which has taken over much of the country) doesn’t allow dissent, any dissent. Mere toleration isn’t allowed either: everyone must be seen to agree with it, which is, I would argue, why anything less than 100% approval of Trump unhinges them.
Wow. You don’t get many people on TPM who are proud of abetting war, torture and a looming autocratic government, but I guess it takes all kinds?
Man, the St. Petersburg troll farms aren’t sending their best, are they?
Oh, dear. Let me guess: someone else will have to come up with the solution and someone else will put in the work, while you sit by and whine a great deal about how things aren’t being done to your satisfaction?
Bless your heart…
Putin figured out that a troll could stop a bullet just as well as a farmboy.
A friend is an election judge in CO and she reports that this year, the Republican judges are assuming every little question mark is evidence of fraud.
