2022 Brings An End To The Tradition Of Apolitical Secretaries Of State

…and ushers in a new tradition of apocalyptic secretaries of state.

I’m not so sure it’s the end of an era of apolitical Sec’s of State as much as it the beginning of an era of overtly and proudly partisan Sec’s of State…and Americans WANT that.

Yes. It’s how you "make America Great Again ( the AGAIN implying a return to a previous state ). Turn America into something it has NEVER been before and never was in the period of time it was said to be great. No Citizens United in the 1960’s. No Stand Your Ground in the 1970’s. ( mass shootings have gone up 5 to 8 fold in the era of the NRA over that when America was great ) No DHS in the 50’s. Strong labor unions in the era of greatness. NO billionaires in that wonderful time. And so forth.

Anyone have any idea what this means??? And we’re missing a title again. Some odd things happening at TPM. @yoopertj???

In any case, this graphic seems to be a no-win situation:

In most States, the SoS is elected by the voters. That’s a problem in States where MAGA has taken serious hold and is entrenched in the narrative, allowing elected SoS’s to overturn things they don’t like and challenge things that interfere with their narrative.

But the other appointments are really no better if a MAGA is in charge of the board or the commission or the Governor, Legislature or Lt. Gov.

Does anyone see a way out of this? Is the cancer of MAGA that rampant that there’s really no alternative?

If Kari Lake and Mark Finchem get elected in AZ it is going to be grim - really grim. The only thing that will be worse is if they are not elected by a narrow margin but the state legislature stays Republican.

By running candidates who will not concede if they lose and cry fraud at every opportunity, the GQP is hastening the chaos that has engulfed us since Trump took office. At the risk of being called a doom and gloomer, in AZ I can only see things getting much worse before they get any better. We are locked into a battle with multiple billionaires who have basically bought and paid for the Republican side of the government in our state. Ducey handed out huge tax breaks to rich people on his way out, and when the citizens tried to reverse it by referendum, the stacked court system managed to disallow more than 100,000 signatures. Very quietly under Ducey, without the fanfare of an Abbott or a DeSantis, the Republicans have locked down every voter suppression trick they could muster this time around and they have a lot more they will be bringing after the election.

I am praying we get the kind of turnout we got in 2022. But you need to know, our gas prices are not going down, the grocery stores are absolutely screwing us by raising the price on everything, and people are getting evicted right and left.

This one showed up this morning, and is appropriate:

And republicans are in charge across the board. Normally that would mean the other party gets a chance to do something different.

I wish Alex Jones and Bannon were more like Rush Limbaugh

Some sort of coding voodoo has made titles not appear. I was made aware and started editing titles manually yesterday. The link at the top of this one was broken, so I delisted it.

I see @dannydorko followed @discobot over and made it active.

I’ve relisted it (that makes it visible to everyone) and edited the title.
Jackie & The Devs™ have been made aware.

Send me a pm or tag me if you see any other front page comment articles either delisted or missing titles.

This right here…

…that kinda freaks me out.

@josh_m…you all right?

As someone who lived in Florida in the year 2000, Katherine Harris would beg to differ.

Welcome, bracket, and you are correct. If anyone needs any idea as to how this will go, her role in 2000 is the example we have to look forward to.
