11th Circuit Rules Against Trump In Mar-a-Lago Case - TPM – Talking Points Memo

The court: “All these arguments are a sideshow”.

Precisely.

Cannon should be sanctioned, as well.

What? There’s no legal path for sanctioning her? Doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be sanctioned, only that she can’t be.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday fully overturned a ruling that delayed the DOJ’s investigation into former President Trump’s secreting of federal records at Mar-a-Lago.

The docs were NOT “secreted”, they were STOLEN!

This site slavishly follows the mainstream media’s demand to never call them what they are, stolen! I can get all that from CNN.

If you look up her resume, she isn’t. So I presume she was bucking for a promotion under a future GOP administration, by demonstrating extreme loyalty to the cause.

It’s nice to have a normal, operating judicial backstop, despite our Supreme Court. In graduate school in the mid 1980s, the focus of my Master’s in U.S. History was the Supreme Court. This was during the Burger era. And, despite loathing Burger himself and Rehnquist, I had a high opinion of my contemporaneous Court. Like many liberals, I looked to the the Judiciary as the Blue Team in government (post New Deal). That pride, joy, and confidence has eroded so terribly in the 21st century (starting with Bush v. Gore), that I’ve basically turned away from following it out of the pain it causes my heart. So I looked at it as a 60 year run of mostly good (and, granted, several good things since), with a steep decline to outright fear in recent years. These kinds of judicial decisions help a lot. Thanks, 11th Circuit!

I want to know what sort of punishments Judge Cannon could face for pulling batshittery like this. Surely she must have transgressed some ethical guidelines at least?

The Deep State has Decided.

Trump failed to deliver them the red wave, now they’re ready to help destroy him lest he cost them a shot in 2024. First the Supremes giving up his tax returns, now this. Not a coincidence that it all comes together only after the mid-terms.

I love that the 11th Circuit said she abused her judicial discretion.

There is one thing, though I’m not sure it’s possible any more under current House rules: they could immunize key witnesses to fuck up the special counsel investigation, as was done during the Iran-Contra investigations. But even Iran-Contra still required six presidential pardons to fully stymie the special prosecutor, and there ain’t no pardons coming this time.

The court found that U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for the Southern District of Florida abused her discretion by agreeing to entertain the civil case that Trump brought seeking to halt a criminal investigation, and that she erred in installing a special master.

Throughout the ruling, the 11th Circuit suggests that Cannon, in siding with Trump, risked creating an entirely new standard that, if repeated, would undermine criminal investigations across the country.

That’s FedSoc Judge quality for ya. Or more specifically, lack of quality.

He will get paid (cannon’s order made sure of that), but I expect it’s on an hourly basis. But I’m sure he’s relieved to be, er, relieved of this shitshow and will enjoy a nice scotch or round of golf or however he relaxes this weekend.
