Discussion: 'What Is The Purpose': Trump Tweet Further Imperils House GOP Immigration Push

This!
From the article.

His tenure has been marked by an extraordinary level of drama, but on some level, relatively little has actually happened in reality. But when things have happened, Trump has been unequal to the task of handling them. Last year’s hurricane season created a catastrophe. The return of Central American asylum seekers to their pre-Trump level immediately devolved into a humanitarian crisis. America’s relationships with its traditional allies are in tatters for no real reason. China is relaxing its enforcement of sanctions on North Korea, and Iran is opening a new nuclear facility.

I’d never heard about Branson’s meeting. Wow:

(Warning: the last paragraph may induce tears…)

Of course @khyber900 is right. I came here to make much the same point, which most of us here realize: Trump is driven entirely by his base impulses, which he has also come to see as his key to political success. What other reason was there to reject Dems’ offer last year to give him his damn wall (or rather, to vote for the money; the stupid thing’ll never be built) in order to save the Dreamers? And of course they’d do the same in a heartbeat to get him to stop abusing desperate parents and kidnapping their kids. But then he and Stephen Goebbels and their cult couldn’t share the satisfaction of tormenting brown people and liberal snowflakes, which Bannon tells him is the key to electoral victory.

The political irony is that, far from diminishing them, IMO Trump could improve his party’s chances in November if he could table his venomous hatred long enough to take the Dems up on their offer and get all this behind him and remove a huge motivation for many people to turn out and vote D. (IIRC, his and the GOP’s poll numbers improved as Charlottesville and DACA, not just health care, dropped out of the headlines.) But he, and the other monsters behind this monstrous policy, just can’t control that venom; ridding us of the “infestation” is what drives them. Monsters.

Sigh… Last year, we were spared the worst possible damage from this administration’s efforts by what Ben Wittes memorably characterized as their “malevolence tempered by incompetence.” This year, it’s looking like we’ve reached the “malevolence exacerbated by incompetence” stage of the Trump presidency. Lord help us.

Once we remove him from office, try him and throw him in jail awaiting punishment - he needs to be waterboarded every day for about 6 hours.

Perhaps he’s been hearing that in all likelihood the R’s in the house won’t even be able to agree on anything enough to get a simple majority. So best to start blaming the Senate rules instead of looking like you can’t even get your own s*t together. Again.
