Discussion: The Undignified Fall Of Trump's Toronto Tower

You know, I really think that it would appeal to him. Let’s say he is considering just leaving office. “They don’t appreciate me!” he thinks to himself. The prospect of collecting a sum of money from his “enemies” on the way out might totally push him to resign.

Just in case anyone else was wondering… The Rinat A. who attended the trump tower meeting was Rinat Akhmetshin who is a Russian-American registered lobbyist. Paul Manaforts old boss is Rinat Akhmetov.

I really need a character index like they put in the back of fantasy epics.

“Despite reusing the SoHo template, Trump had no skin in the Toronto game, however colorful his dreams, said Wine, who contended Trump still has “a duty of care” to people who invested in the project on the strength of his reputation.”

Sorry, the “duty of care” line just made me laugh out loud when associated with DJT.

Levitan would later testify that his experience with vending machines made him a competent hotel manager

That would qualify him more as a Treasury Secretary or head of the Fed in this disAdministration.

“What he seems to do in all his projects is he gives you the impression that he’s building the building, it’s all the glitter and glamour and quality of his name,”
Glitter, glamour, and quality are not the words I would have chosen.
More like, gluttonous, gross, and inferior.

I believe that your local Democratic party organization would be happy to accept your contribution towards that end.

I think he actually may be the flea.

Strong Paulw. I just needed to watch the Netflix show Ozark with Justin Bateman to learn about the mechanics of money laundering. Fascinating show and very apt.

One of the things that amazes me in hindsight is how well the Trump Organization pulled off this kind of branding scam (by “well” I mean convincing people it was his building… obviously that doesn’t include running it successfully!). I watched Trump Toronto get built over the years with very mild interest at best, mostly because it took forever, but based on news articles at the time I certainly assumed he was building it. They even made a big show of the first season’s winner of The Apprentice being the “construction manager” or whatever bogus title they invented. I do recall there being talk of “business partners” etc., but even that didn’t convey the reality that Trump has basically nothing to do with these projects. Of course I know better now, but at the time, when “Trump” just meant a tacky celebrity, the branding scam was quite effective.

Actually another point comes to mind. The Trump brand was always more of an American thing than an international one, so it struck me that so much effort went into Trump-branding something in a city that didn’t really give a shit. Not bragging, because we’ve got more than our share of dumb people (the stain of Rob Ford will live forever!!), but it seemed weird to choose Toronto for a brand as associated with cheap ostentation as “Trump”. Knowing the whole thing was probably a laundering scam actually makes way more sense.

Investor tip: How to make money on a “Trump” project? Stay far away from it.

More dirty money filterd through the life-long Criminal in Chief. From an AU article today:

‘Mob links’ killed off Trump’s Sydney casino bid
Donald Trump’s plan to build and operate Sydney’s first casino was killed off in 1987 by the NSW government on the back of a high-level police report that warned against the now-US President’s bid because of his “mafia connections’’.

“The board is firmly of the view that on tests of sound repute, probity and integrity, none of the three consortia discussed above (HKMS, Kern/Trump, Federal/Resort/Sabemo) can be considered acceptable; indeed each would be dangerous,” the Police Board found.

So glad that the Sulzbergers and Dean Baquet directed the staff at the New York Times to focus so much of their valuable time and resources on the “clouds and shadows” hovering over the Clinton Foundation instead of what was going right under their fucking noses at TrumpCo. Considering that Trump has spent his entire goddamn career based in Manhattan, the NYT should have established an entire department tasked with researching, investigating, and reporting on the entirety of Trump’s career in a way that was valuable and informative to the electorate as soon as it became clear he was a legit threat to capture the GOP nomination. They should have been the go-to source for all things Trump.

It’s ironic that it was the WaPo, not the NYT, that ended up getting a Pulitzer for its Trump coverage.

He does have a gift for infantile glee, like it’s the first time he’s ever seen something shiny.

Just in case you were wondering, “Say, this is about Russian oligarchs with their dirty dirty billions—where’s Ukie and his blandly offered hyperprovocative baseless assertions that this all proves nothing except what he decides it does?” Well, alas, he was banned again. For trolling, believe it or not. He grossly misrepresented someone else’s position and then said it was fascist. So the mods gave him a month off to think about his choices in life. I know that’s twice now—it might be more, but twice for sure. Enjoy your time off, Ukie! Take some long walks like people do in the movies when they’re really thinking about something. Because you ought to.

That firetruck thing—deep down I may never stop cringing. JFC.

Or can we demand that Trump vacate it 200+ days a year, and pay us for that privilege?

At a dollar per person you could raise this amount by the end of the week. Where is the gofundme page?
