Discussion: The Budget Battles Brewing for 2016 GOP Governors

One of the really good things to come out of the 2014 midterms is the fact that Dem Governors weren’t put in the position of having to clean up the horror that some Red states have turned into.

This is what Rethug voters wanted, this is what they got.

Let’s see a billion here, a billion there we can make that shortfall up easy lets take the 10 million we pay the least among us, that will do it… next tax cut coming up… OH shit, that new math is a bitch. I know, let’s cut the funding for schools that’ll teach them…

You know, darrtown, I understand how that garbage can fool their base to an extent. What’s on paper or ingrained in an ideology is one thing; but when they refuse to see what’s actually happening TO THEM, in real time, that’s when you know Stockholm Syndrome has kicked in big time.

I look forward to the day when Grover Norquist’s influence is small enough to drown in a bathtub. In the meantime, stuff like this will continue to happen.

This paragraph in this article is butchered and would have been best left out:

“Norquist’s pledge stipulates that politician will not raise income taxes, and that if
they reduce tax deductions elsewhere, those tax deductions must be offset but other tax cuts.”

Sorry but first and last time I will make such a comment again.

Don’t worry, though, the US House is going to start using that new dyanmic scoring system, so all this will be quickly sorted out.

True. I knew what they meant, but the wording is tortured and I had to do a re-reading to make sure I got it. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one.

Not:
BENGHAZI BENGHAZI BENGHAZI !!!

Rather it is the GOP’s canary in the coal mine:
KANSAS, KANSAS, KANSAS !!!

“No New Taxes” is their cry. At the same time, they hope that the voters don’t notice all the new fees they added are just another tax.

B-b-b-b-b-b-but cutting taxes will cause a massive increase in revenues! The money will just come pouring in! And jobs – the jobs will come flooding into the state! Um . . . .no?

All these clowns, including Norquist, are so dirty that I’m surprised when I don’t see a cloud of dust puffing around them at all times. Are the Democrats and the left so self-destructive that they don’t pound these bastards with everything they can just to get them out of the way? Hell, there are plenty of sex workers you can hire to entice these morons into a room laden with cameras. If not them, members of their family. All’s fair.

I would have thought by now Kasich or Christie, who to some extent are their own men more than the others, would have a Sister Soulja moment with Norquiest by now, but the two proved to be fat but gutless wonders too.

“If you’re more tax cutting, and more spending restraint than other people, it would get in the way of passing [a budget] five years ago,” he said. “But now the conversation, the debate, the public discussion is only helpful”

Somebody want to translate this bull**it for me?

Also, it seems like we skipped the acknowledgement that cutting taxes does not raise revenues, and instead have gone straight from “will cutting taxes raise revenues and trickle down?” to “lowering taxes has lowered revenues, so let’s cut spending because …smaller government!!!”

Why aren’t there grand declarations that Reaganomics is dead? Where is the “liberal media” when I need it?

Yup, the real job creators are young engineers with families, who like to hike in beautiful places and generally care about quality of life. And they get to choose where they will live. They leave basket-case states like Wisconsin in droves. Maybe a few addled libertarians go there, talking loudly about business, but they’re not the truly competent people who form the backbones of successful companies. The real John Galts tend to be socialistic – e.g. Elon Musk. Those poor libertarians’ heads must have started exploding when their poster boy started naming his robot barges after AI ship names in a far left wing SF novel series. (The “Culture” series of Iain Banks, in case anyone doesn’t know).

The blood pressure remark makes me think of Jebya and what he said about his Apple watch and blood sugar, so let’s not forget that he also was a governor in his previous political life and left behind a legacy which will be open to debate.

Republicants must think they benefit in a couple of ways from these disproven positions. For instance, they get an amazing number of uninformed issue voters and their genocide on the bad people and poor is furthered. Pretty much a war is good mentality.

I’m looking forward to Perry’s official announcement that he’s a candidate when he’ll be able to use his mugshot on his campaign posters.

The legislatures stuck with these governors should begin with a symbolic cut – zero out the governors salary, pension, expense account, entertaining funds, maintenance and security for the governor’s mansion; virtually any monies controlled by the governor, since austerity should begin at home. Then let the governor whine about his inability to throw a party as he cuts higher education.

We know that it takes a tremendous ego to run for President, Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever, but for a Governor to run with a record of fiscal disaster in their stewardship of their own state is delusional.

I keep wondering when the major retailers like Wallmart are going to realize that all their opportunities for profit come from ordinary people with money in their pocket. If they realized that, a little savings on their own payroll by keeping their employees broke would be nothing compared to the additional sales to people with a living wage or better. And the 1% don’t shop at Wallmart.
