Discussion: Rubio Asks Court To Dismiss Complaint Arguing He's Not 'Natural Born Citizen'

Not a Rubio fan – but he was born on US soil so he is without question, a native born citizen – and it does not matter legally that his parents weren’t citizens. The only people who give a shit are far right deluded racists. As for Cruz – I am in favor of any effective action that makes him just go away – he is that dangerous a threat to this country and the world. However, if he is legally deemed to be not native born, then we’ll see the downgrading of citizenship status of every child born abroad to an american parent. I don’t think that a positive development. It would be infinitely better if Cruz was dispensed with by other means. A well targeted lightening bolt would be just perfect.

Who brought the lawsuit and what did Trump pay them?

I don’t think any of our presidents were born to two parents who were not born in the United States. Thomas Jefferson’s father was born in Virginia but his mother was born in London (Jefferson himself was born in Virginia). Barack Obama was born in the US and one of his parents, of course, was a US citizen.

So, Rubio, born in the US but to two parents who were not born in the US and were not citizens at the time does constitute a distinct case that might need to be settled in court.

As ironically funny as this is, the suit should be dismissed for lack of standing. It DOES bring up an interesting point, namely, who WOULD have standing to oppose a candidate’s legitimacy to be sworn in as president? The Electoral College, maybe?

Maybe Jim Gilmore??

There is a question regarding Rubio because neither parent was a citizen.

Unfortunately, that’s only his ‘competency age’.

You’re entitled to your own opinion, but the phrase in the Constitution is ‘natural born’ and means more in context than native born. At the writing, natural born included both being in the country and being the offspring of a citizen father.

Any candidate who does not get the nomination has a cause of action against Rubio or Cruz.

Unfortunately, no. The poorly written 14th Amendment and subsequent statutes confirm that the “accident of birth” indeed confirms citizenship.

The Repubs birther antics against Obama are boomeranging on them. So be it!

I would prefer an American president who is born in America of American parents. Yes, I know that Obama was born in America and had one American parent. That’s acceptable to me. Both Rubio and Cruz don’t qualify.

I don’t know if he is or isn’t natural born. But he sure is a big baby.

doesn’t matter as the Scots are known to be white.

Obama, Cruz, and Rubio don’t pass the rigorous GOP ethnic purity test for President.

It’s kind of gratifying to see them eat their own.

This has “anchor baby” written all over it. I did not know his parents became citizens after his birth. The base is terrified of people exactly like his parents (whom I wish had delivered this asshole in Cuba).

:cold_sweat: Rubio: “Curses …hung by my own rope!”

The GOP has spent the last 7-8 years bitching and whining about the birth certificate. So, in the next election cycle they run a pair of anchor babies for prez. Are they stupid or crazy? Are there no other kinda, sorta Latino dudes they could run that were born here? Maybe get one of those guys with a Latino sounding name and give him a spray tan?

These people brought this on themselves. They had loads of fun cheering on the “Birthers” when they were attacking Barack Obama. Now it has come back to bite them with their own party raising questions about their eligibility to be elected president. BTW, watch out for the Bush campaign, and by that I include all the “independent PACs” supporting him. They have a long history of deeply nasty campaigns going back to Poppy and his assaults on the feckless Michael Dukakis, and also Dubya who benefited from the supposedly independent attacks on John Kerry’s Viet Nam record. The Bush camp is already running some nasty attack ads trying to become viable in this race. Don’t let the "nice’ veneer fool you.

Best get Louie the Gomer on this case. Rubio needs to be deported before his style of terrorism causes even more damage than already done as a useless fake Senator. Send this pinko commie rat back to his overlords in Cuba…
