Republican State Representative Andy Gipson of Braxton says the law gives small congregations an option to defend themselves against attack. He proposed the bill as a response to the slayings last year of nine people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina.

UNIDENTIFIED CONGREGANTS #2: (Singing) Bless (unintelligible)…

BOGER: Here, the guns-in-church bill is much less popular with the predominantly black congregation. Pastor Lorenzo Neal has spoken against the measure on several occasions. He says bringing guns into the sanctuary will not make anyone safer.

LORENZO NEAL: I actually believe it may create a greater sense of anxiety because now people are unaware who may be carrying a weapon. And the church is a place where people are expected to come and fellowship and love and not have to worry about their safety per se.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Gov. Phil Bryant has signed into law a bill
that allows some members of churches to undergo firearms training so
they can provide armed security for their congregations.

The Church Protection Act specifies that those designated can carry
guns into church buildings. It also allows people to carry holstered
weapons without a permit.

Mathew 26:52…
We know what Jeebus says … what would Jesus say?

Amazing how a black church is victimized by an out and out racist…and the white churches claim to feel threatened.

It is a spelling change: Pray to Prey. Nice work Mississippi. That is necessary as the local communities are losing funds for warehousing people in their jails. So a little more violence is just what is needed. /s
