Discussion: Kavanaugh Accuser Comes Forward: 'I Thought He Might Inadvertently Kill Me'

Dan Quayle?!? Is that you?

Bigger than Chiselinā€™ Trump, in 2016?

Can you imagine Kavanaugh and RBG being on the same Court? I canā€™t.

And what those black voters got with Thomas was the very caricature of the house nigger or Uncle Tom. He was allowed to come out of the field and into the house and by god he will protect that privilege at every turn even if it means those black supporters will be hurt.

Most 17 year old males do not commit acts of attempted rape, sexual assault, battery or false imprisonment, whether drunk or sober.

Kavanaughā€™s conduct is not about the outer boundary of what is permissible vs punishable sexual conduct. Itā€™s right in the sweet spot of punishable sexual misconduct. He should resign from the bench and face investigation.

Kavanaugh isnā€™t entitled to the job and the GOP is not entitled to SCOTUS. Screw them both.

Coy did it, too? I guess I should have known.

Iā€™m around the same age as judge Kavanaugh and also grew up in a similar suburban environment just north of NYC. We had our share of weekend parties where alcohol and some other substances were consumed with abandon. This was when the drinking age was still 18. The great paraquat scare of 78 was frequently discussed. Yes some people did some stupid things while inebriated but sexual assault or even groping was something that did not even enter even less than rational peopleā€™s minds. Maybe because pornography was tough to access, the town Rexall kept it under wraps on the shelves far above the Mad and Rolling Stone or the bevy of ERA now bumper stickers on cars.

Itā€™s a power trip. This is who Kavanaugh is.

ā€œThe second male student in the room besides Kavanaugh, Mark Judge ā€” who allegedly stopped the assault by jumping on top of Kavanaugh and Fordā€¦also declined to comment.ā€

Wow. ā€œI canā€™t say my friend DIDNā€™T assault this woman!ā€ What a rousing vote of confidence!

How about Kavanaugh and Mark Judge ALSO take a lie-detector test? Trump is very gung-ho on such tests, as he was calling for some just last week!

Getting out of the Judiciary Committee is just a step in the nomination process. Open advise and consent on the Senate floor with the C-Span cameras rolling is the next step.

It is so scary, GR. You are so spot on. So is Junebug. There are so many powerful men who have this belief system & who mistreat people. There is an underlying rage to all of it too. And now that demographics are really changing, their power really is threatened and they are going to get more extreme in what they do, I fear. I donā€™t think they have been able to win a presidential election for years without cheating. Itā€™s their M.O. I think that a lot of how many of them run their business and lives is amorally. I wish I didnā€™t feel this way, but I just feel Iā€™ve seen too much.
And then you see the unfairness of our criminal justice system (white collar criminals rarely prosecuted)ā€¦and so many of the vicious, callous laws that they pass.

Revisiting my time w/ them since BK has been nominated for SC has honestly been upsetting. I am really grateful to people on this threadā€¦ I had put all of this in the past and rarely talked about the Prep Boys. But I felt compelled to speak up and speak to the credibility of what Christine has said happened, having spent so much time w/ these guys. I believe her 100%. And I get her trauma and fear.

It wasnā€™t just what they did that was so awful, but how they close ranks. But itā€™s how you find that the people you think are your friends are not who you thought they were.
For me at that time, that was almost as traumatic as what actually happened to me.
(Though GR, you are also rightā€¦if you are paying attention, they start to show their true colors and once you see it, you canā€™t unsee it)

I recently reconnected w/ a friend of a friend, H, and her brother is one of BKā€™s group. She was going on and on about how nice these guys were (and are) and I cut her off and said, ā€œI believe that is how they are to you, because you are one of them, but my experience was very different.ā€ And I told her about how I was viciously verbally attacked at the last party I went to (by one of the guys I had never even spoken to) and then sexually assaulted by the guy I went to for help. She actually listened and said she wasnā€™t surprised about it. So, many of the women in their world DO know. I think a lot of them make compromisesā€¦they pretend not to know, they are in marriages to powerful men from the clan, but they arenā€™t necessarily happy or treated all that well. They made a deal w/ Satan when they married this.

I am not that knowledgeable about Catholicism, but, yes, certainly these fellows, and many other sh-theads I have known are conservative (and I think that might be the key) Catholicsā€¦at least in DCā€¦ and they seem extremely un-Christ-like in their treatment of others. Can someone explain this please? But in DC there is almost a cabal of Catholic power brokersā€¦maybe none of these private school boys ever leave? And the frat-ish antics continue.

BTW, his Blagojevich like hairstyle is pretty much the same as it was in HS. Only now he dyes it and it looks like he does it himself b/c of the bad color. (Iā€™m not against men dyeing their hairā€¦but my colorist told me that once ones hair turns white, it is harderā€¦ you have to watch the color you useā€¦red will turn pink and brown will frequently turn orange or flatā€¦heh. A little hair color trivia there. Dark blonde dye will often turn brown if you leave it on longer than advised)

he said Sunday evening that until he learns more about the sexual
assault allegations against Kavanaugh, he is not comfortable voting yes.

I went to college with the pop collar two shirt westchester county self entitled types. Never felt accepted nor comfortable around them as a middle class lawn-guylander.

Nice that I didnā€™t have to serve with any of them at sea.

Hi. I think he loves his daughters and I think that, to the best of his ability, he loves his wife.

My impression of him is that he has always been a very ambitious person and SC was always his goalā€¦

A lot of men are single minded about work and then find themselves surprised when they have children, that they love them as much as they do. He seems like this type of guy. And itā€™s great.

I think he can be both a completely amoral vicious person at work & maybe most of the time and then a loving father (and husband) and friend to his cronies. People compartmentalize

I am not so sure he knew this would come out. The Republicans have gotten away w/ so much for so long (well, with Mueller, that too may be ending).
Think about itā€¦the 2000 election and the 2004 election were corrupted and nobody ever ā€œfound outā€. (Kerry recently spoke on Bryan Lehrer WNYC about 2004ā€¦Ugh)
I caught part of the hearings. Aside from knowing him, he reminds me of other men I have known who thought they were more clever than they actually were and could get away with lying or fibbing. Or maybe it worked when he was younger, but now he is an adult man and these tricks no longer are effective. Or he is getting lazy or sloppy. Or maybe he doesnā€™t care if he comes off as dishonest b/c he knows he is going to be SC no matter whatā€¦ Any of these might be accurate.

I think if he thought about this at all I think he figured she would be taken care of.

I think ā€œtheyā€ (BK, his Prep clan, the establishment DC Republican community, the Republican elected officials, Fox News and Republican/right wing press + the invisible dirty soldiers theyā€™ll use) will try to annihilate her still.

And then his wife can Stepfordly stand by her manā€¦look, Mrs K worked at the WH and certainly saw BK doing some of his mischief and had no problems w/ itā€¦so, I donā€™t think she cares. She likely doesnā€™t want to be humiliated but, she wants to be Mrs SC K soā€¦

(Think of Maria Shriver attacking the women who Arnold assaultedā€¦it was only after he had a child w/ ā€œthe helpā€ that she leftā€¦the proof of humiliation was too much. This is the same crowd. The Shriver boys went to prep a few years before BK)

My guess is that the 60 Minutes producers are moving heaven and earth to try and get Mrs Ford to sit down for an interview. Best case, they would probably want it to air before a full Senate voteā€¦ failing that, fall sweeps week is coming up the 3rd week of October. If ever there was a story that has the potential to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable this is it.

You should contact the woman at the WaPo who wrote the article. Lawn-guylandā€¦love that place.

After DC, I lived in NYC but also several other cities, all of which were incredibly diverse. None of these fellows would have felt at home in any of them and that is where the tables turn.
Because most of the world is full of people from all over the place, with different backgrounds, types of education, experiences, views, and these insular pop collar types are missing out on that and how much more interesting life is when you donā€™t just hang out w/ clones of yourself.

No matter what happens in November, Congress in January is going to look much less Pop Collar and it is going to start really representing more people. And itā€™s never going back. And that gives me hope. And the lives of the Prep boys and your Pop Collar boys are going to get narrower and narrower unless they break out.

Iā€™m really glad you didnā€™t have to serve w/ any of them at sea too. That would be misery.

I went to college with a bunch of guys and women who smoked an occasional joint, formed temporary and convivial connubial entanglements, loved animals, nature, the joy of discovery; and collected and stuffed all manner of small vertebrates, and sometimes, road kills, provided that they were not too badly damaged. I remember a great horned owl in perfect condition except that the vehicle that struck it was not too kind to itā€™s beak. Me? I was too shy to understand. I got better. Ah, the halcyon days of youth.
