The caller’s going to do it every time, because Stern fools live for this shit.
Now Stern’s at home, whacking his 3-incher, laughing that he just got another 50k listeners to tune in tomorrow.

It’s like two good attorneys at trial, i change my mind who sucks more everytime somebody speaks.
Hard call. Cage Match?
Yes, somehow this is not funny. I think they should find out his name and address and broadcast it to the public.
Several TPM posters in this thread and others seem to think it an occasion of mirth.
So clearly the “victim” in this case was just asking for it and deserved to be taught a lesson! Particularly because of her name.
The guy is a dick for making a joke of a serious situation, but it also shows just how awful our news has become. In a race to be the first to report, they obviously neglected to verify anything about this person.
That’s part of what I don’t get - he’s on pay radio. He has all the listeners who are interested. Nobody’s going to pay out to hear him talk about this.
And really, what does he say? Really, I’ve had no interest, but even when he was on broadcast when a jerk pulled the same trick on the TWA flight off Long Island - did he ever mention it?
“I have a great sense of humor…but this is beyond the pale!”
It might be, I’ll concede, but I love Stern, who is for the most part pretty liberal guy. The person doing the prank call is a person who calls himself “Captain Janks”. People complaining that this episode is an indicator of how bad news has become should watch this, it was always thus:
I gotta call you out on this one.
That is horrendously unfair to Howard Stern. Rushbo is a sociopathic psychopath, and you can really only compare him to the likes of Coulter, Hannity and Glen Beck.
[ Disclaimer: I am not defending Stern (very much). He’s a freak, and usually a tasteless freak. But anyone who has followed his career can determine that he is neither sociopathic nor psychopathic; he has actually done some really cool things that demonstrate he is (somewhat) human beneath that persona. He pushes boundaries, often tasteless boundaries, and nobody has to like him … but it takes a Very Special Cupcake to be placed in the same comparison bin as Limbaugh. Dick Cheney, for example …
The caller who pulled this “prank,” though, needs to be located, identified and crucified for this stunt. It was truly disgusting and well beyond the pale. ]
Nor would your search turn up any on-air “personalitys” like Howard Stern back then either. Broadcast codes wouldn’t have permitted it.
However, the reason you didn’t find footage of them being pranked is that their telecasts were **not **live call-in shows. I doubt you will find any footage of current network news anchors being thus pranked either.
Not to mention the ground assault on Gaza. I haven’t yet been to the TPM article about that occurrence to note the yuks it provokes among posters.
I’m pretty sure the majority of people here are ridiculing the network anchor, condemning the prankster, and not addressing the tragic airplane crash in this thread.
Presumably performing a public service in the justification of some superficials.
“Malaysian plane falls mainly on Ukraine”
Dammit. It is definitely w r o n g that I am smiling at that.
As your punishment, I refuse to give you a “Like” for it. I hope you can live with yourself.
And out of this thread too. Pretty please.
How could they not know that was Captain Janks the minute he started talking? They need to play his past phone pranks for their screeners.
And like all victims, they are just asking for it, and deserve what they get. Besides, “I” thought it was funny, and I won’t criticize my own reaction.
You are correct. But the murder of hundreds of aircraft passengers is what this about, isn’t it.
There are many occasions to regale ourselves with the folly of others, and we do. This occasion is not such a one.
Hey, I’m not talking about Howard and Limbaugh. I’m talking about their fans.
With all due respect, that’s not what this thread is about. Look at the headline.
As for the cause of all this - the airplane crash, I think it’s pretty universal that a great many honorable people, who have had to deal with a great deal of death in their life’s experience, joke about it. This can be very disconcerting for those without this experience, and may appear to be dis-respectful, but I can assure you that at least from my perspective, it’s not. It’s a coping mechanism, and is far from rare.
