Discussion: Ex-DOJ Official Specializing In Fraud, Foreign Bribery Joins Mueller Team

Seriously, isn’t this the most significant case of a political/criminal sort since Nuremberg? Not comparable in subject , but in political weight?

Oh my gosh, yes. And they are all at the top of their game. It’s reassuring to the American public that the corruption that came in with and continues with the new administration will be thoroughly examined.

Unfortunately it seems not. These things take time to do correctly, especially when counterintelligence stuff is threaded through it. Let’s give them the time we need and hope we all survive long enough to see justice done and perp walks walked.

Besides, with Trump confessing more and more every day, why rush?

I think it’s the consensus among the cognoscenti that Mueller doesn’t fuck around. He has always been known as a straight arrow, and you cross him at your peril.

I picture Mueller doing a very thorough piece-by-piece investigation. With every rock he turns over, he finds something that leads deeper into the morass. “Uh-oh, we’re gonna need a fraud specialist. Oh, no, now we’re gonna need a money-laundering expert. Oh, dear, I’m afraid we’re going to need a bribery man.” And so on, and on, and on.

I think you could easily argue it’s the most significant political crime ever. Period full stop.

Went to Walter George School of Law at Mercer. Ranks 105th out of the top 145 law schools. Other notable alums are Nancy Grace and Erick Erickson.

Mueller should hire Richard Painter. Excellent Republican credentials. Federalist Society, George W’s ethics counsel. Watch the heads explode.

But the most critical question for Trump is “Who did Andres contribute to and vote for?”

He could justifiably hire Hillary, based on her resume. "Specialist in impeachment proceedings "

I agree. It’s important that this be done methodically so that there is little support for the idea that the investigation was rushed through to support a liberal agenda. The more evidence, the better.
I expect this is why the principal targets have yet to be deposed. They want to know the answers before they ask the questions of the liar in chief.

[/quote]And the more the Trump team says there’s nothing there, that it’s a witch hunt, that Mueller and DOJ should be investigation Hillary - the more you know it’s bigger than we have even imagined. Mueller isn’t adding more specialists on a whim - it’s because they keep learning things that broaden the criminal subject matter of the investigation. If Trump enjoys setting records for the biggest things…well, this will set a few before it’s over.

So, the question is whether these hires make it more likely that Trump will use the nuclear option on Mueller. Interestingly, I didn’t see any support for Franks’ suggestion; indeed, if “close friendship” were the standard to be used – not conceding that it even applies to Mueller and Comey – virtually everyone in the White House would be gone.

There seems to be a growing sense among the smarter and more savvy Repubs that prudence suggests backing away from Trump, which may reflect their private polling on him.

I’ll be very fascinated when and if Mueller. hires a forensic psychologst.

We’ll know he’s trolling if he hires someone for their knowledge of Greek–Cypriot Greek.

I mean, to be clear, emotionally I’ve been THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING JESUS GOD MAKE IT STOP I BEG YOU since last summer. It’s an effort just to maintain your equilibrium amid the daily barrage of toxic and dangerous insanity. But I know from reading about it that major prosecutions are like anything else, it can’t be done all in a minute as much as you wish it might. I recently let a paying client go because he wanted a ton of stuff done good, fast, and cheap all three. Can’t do it. So you might as well do it right, right?

I’m hoping the shit hits the fan next spring around May or June. That way most primary campaigns will be over, and those Republicans running as Never Trumpers and “reasonable” will flame out before the general. Democrats will then be able to run their entire general election campaigns with arrests, pardons, daily revelations, etc. going on as a backdrop. They’ll be able to run largely positive campaigns about cleaning up the mess in Washington, and without ever uttering the Orange Menace’s name everyone will know who and what they’re talking about.

I was wondering if his lawyers are considering an insanity defense. Not really snark–a serious thought.
