Discussion: Dem Gov Group's $20M Ad Buy Targets 4 States Electing Guvs Key To Redistricting

It is impossible to exaggerate the significance of these elections.

Control of state legislatures after the 2010 election is how the GOP gerrymandered the Congressional map and the state legislative maps and why they controls those chambers today.

“Democrats and Republicans both are attempting to gain control of as many governors’ offices and legislatures as possible in advance of redistricting, because the party that controls that process can draw lines that give it an electoral edge for the decade to come.”

Or, y’know, restore some fairness, order and balance to the concept of representation by district?

There’s a false equivalence built into this statement that’s terribly cynical.

Getting out the credit card for DGA right now. This is a cause worth getting behind!

I also think Perez is doing a great job over at the DNC, and am very encouraged by the DCCC’s approach to these elections. Good candidates in all districts (literally the DNC is fielding candidates so far in all but three districts!) will improve Dem turnout across the board.

Haven’t read as much about DSCC — but they have the steepest hill to climb. But they’ll benefit from all these other strong efforts: I hope Manchin, McCaskill et all will helped by strong candidates in other races.

“The U.S. Supreme Court is weighing whether and how to determine if partisan gerrymandering is unconstitutional.”

Here’s a hint: if one party’s total vote exceeds the other’s by more than 1/3, but the other wins most of the legislative seats, it’s unconstitutionally removing representation from the majority of the citizenry.

OK, lots of nice information, but being able to SEE the Ads might be Nicer (Even if it is on another website, for reasons I could understand.)

we need to move to computerized redistricting, using an open-source program and data that can be inspected by the public… Neither Ds or Rs will like this, but tough… partisan gerrymandering should stop.

Agreed, but it’s quite likely that the ads haven’t been produced yet. The article states that the ads won’t run until the fall. But the earlier you buy the media, particularly in an election year, the better the rates and the more bang you’ll get for your buck.
